So, what's the situation with the VN?
Haven't played for a long time, not after the downgrade of the story. But hearing all others I have come to a conconclusion.

The dev(writer) is probably a woman(or not). She kinda created her dream character Bella then created a great story around her. It was a complete new approach and quite unique. I was like in love with the story and the characters.

Then Patreon came and ruined everything. All the good things about the VN is gone(that's what everyone is saying at least).
The dev has a lot of supporters on Subscribestar(~4000$). She could definitely deliver a slight different version there. I believe all the fans there deserve it. I can't speak for others but I can say that I was really very eager to see when the VN completes and why the updates are really slow and was really frustrated about it. I was infatuated with the story the the character Bella which logically seemed mad to me. But now as I learned that all the good things of the story has changed I no longer feel any enthusiasm for it. It is certainly a good thing for me but it also shows how much the quality of the VN has degraded.

What a SHAME!!!!! A truly masterpiece ruined by both the dev and Patreon.

- Ocean is not a woman.
- Ocean doesn't have that amount of support on SS. On SS Ocean has ~$3000.
- Ocean gets more on patreon, because a lot of people won't use SS which is why Ocean is careful about his patreon.
- SS will at some point make things harder with their terms of service, so it's only a matter of time before SS starts doing things to devs.
- Fans don't *deserve* anything - they are supporting a dev because they like what the dev does, or not if they don't like. A creator can only hope that people like what they create. A dev can't make a great game by trying to please every preference, it is best for them to tell the story they want to tell.

It is a fine balance to work as a dev to balance between fan expectations, TOS from distribution platforms and the story the dev wants to tell. If Ocean can keep telling his story, and stays passionate about making it, I can follow it or not.

What is everyone saying about the good things being gone? Season 1 Ocean tried to make 16+, not 18+ so he could sell it in Germany. It didn't work, but Season 2 will be 18+. There are another 5 seasons Ocean has yet to make, so it is a long journey. All the previous versions had a warning that there was no sex in the current version, and there is no sex. Sex is planned. Shenanigans are planned. Right now, the only problem is that fans want something sooner than Ocean is delivering. All the rest is people talking about stuff that is yet to be revealed.

TO be honest, all the good things people say are gone, well, most people don't like Summer from the flashbacks anyway I am also not worried about the lewds, the majority of the lewds that were removed were of limp dicks. That's not my thing. I'm still enjoying the story. I'd suggest you do other things until the next update comes out, and then play it to see if it's moving forward or not. If people are telling you Ocean is a woman, I wouldn't trust most of what they say.

Off course SS fans deserve that. If the Dev does not take the advantages of the lower restrictions of Subscribestar then why should the people support him on SS!! They just could do it on Patreon.
About the lewd scenes, I had never complained about those. The story attracts me and the renders are great which is definitely a plus. I was talking about the approach of the VN. I heard that there is no longer the aggressive approach mainly by Bella and many harsh languages which made the VN more lively.

And about playing myself, I'll definitely do it, maybe after there are some penetration sex scene with Bella. Again I am not eager for the sex scene but as many people are talking about the change in story I don't wanna get disappointed. So, when there will be some sex scenes with Bella, at least I won't return empty handed, if it's not a good story anymore I will still get some great sex scene as the renders are genre's best class. But as of now it will be either a hit or miss and I don't want to use my time just to get disappointed.

SN: I always like flashback technique for a novel. But for VN(game) it should not be full flashback. The early episodes flashback was good. Mixing present and the past excellently. This is what attracted me to it in the first place.

Well, there are 240 paid SS fans and 1250 paid patreon fans. What do you think is likely? SS isn't a long term solution though, as it's TOS apparently have had some changes. I don't know this myself, but regardless, at some point before SG is finished, SS will clamp down because of the payment providers, just like it happened with patreon. So Ocean is being wise, diversifying his payment sources.

I apologise for comparing you with the other people who complain the novel has been dumbed down; most people complain because of the minor lewd scenes that have been cut, despite there being no sex between characters the whole season in any version, only some minor foreplay.

In regards to the language and tone, some of it has been toned down, but it is personal taste. Overall, I enjoy some characters more now, and I prefer the game overall. Some of the gentle moments and heartbreaking moments are beautiful, so there has been (in my opinion) on overall benefit to the game (for me, I like Nami now while before I found her completely over the top). Some of the racist language has been removed, but that doesn't ruin the story.

Moving forward, to play season 2, maybe Ocean will have a path maker, but my guess is you'll have to play season 1 and import your save. The story is getting more involved, but this first season is really like a prologue, seting the stage, so if you wish to wait, you'll get a lot more in one sitting.

The flashbacks are still flitting back and forward, whenever required. I think that will be a fixture of Ocean's technique for telling the story, at least through the therapy side of things, and panic attacks/reflections.

Brilliant reasoning. But you're forgetting about WiAB. There is no such thing as WiAB on Patreon.
Of course, there is another reason that not everyone wants to use Patreon, but you are unlikely to accept it.

Oh, and I forgot one more obvious reason. Right now, if you subscribe to Ocean via SS, you get both games for the price of one. If you subscribe to SG via Patreon, you don't have access to WiAB. I don't know if this will change when WiAB comes to Steam, but for now that's how it is.

I, for one, support Ocean on SS because I DO NOT TRUST Patreon!

Patreon has changed their TOS with no warning, multiple times, and we already lost WIAB to those changes, meaning that Ocean lost that $ support for one of the two creations he is making concurrently.

I'm here, as a $ supporter, as long as Ocean is telling a story I enjoy... and I enjoy SG.

Ocean creates SG/WIAB as his job and I like his work output!

It is hard to wait for the first release of S2 content, but I am patient.

I have a large backlog of other AVN content to check out, hoping to find a few that appeal to me as much as SG.

You see, this is the first really big problem. You heard it from someone instead of looking it up yourself and deciding for yourself if it was true or not. The vast majority of people who crying over the abandonment of the more aggressive story, fail to understand that if Summer's Gone is partially about healing, that automatically excludes the earlier darker, more aggressive direction.

And this is another big problem. Unfortunately, we live in a world where - whether like it or not - a (A)VN developer has to accept certain rules, even if the rules themselves change from month to month, and are basically bullshit. If the developer asks for support on Patreon or any other similar platform, he/she has already extradite him/herself to at least one third party (Patreon, CC Companies, etc.). If the rules are constantly changing, then the developer can do two things, either leave the whole thing to hell, because he/she doesn't want to have a endless and meaningless fight, or try to do everything to protect the product as much as possible. At the moment, a particular story - and this is not an optional thing - has to change, so more or less everyone will or can be satisfied. And since this is supposedly a free world, no one is obliged to spend time with an AVN that does not meet their tastes and expectations.

If AVN players had all moved to SS en masse instead of Patreon when the restrictions began piling up everyone would've been better of other than Patreon. As much chance as been sucked off by a unicorn though than that happening. It feels like only a matter of time until the rug is pulled out from under devs completely by Patreon.
