I guess this game is dead?

No since it was never alive in the first place.;) After all it's game and were all
waiting for the first chapter because it's a damn good game and I think you feel
the same way or else you wouldn't be here right? But as the late Great Tom Petty
wrote.....The waiting is the hardest part.

This thread, basically:

Come for the dev logs, ignore everything else. Same rehashed topics, maybe a 'spoiler' that makes you go "neat" before you close the tab and the spoiler is never spicy enough to fuel more than a few hours worth of discussion

Vicious cycle
If any devlogs happen (this is Ocean we're talking about) they quickly get lost in the hundreds of pages of pointless arguing and over-analyzing every single detail or choice of shading or a type or something, that's been discussed and over-analyzed dozens of times before already. :D

Ch5 Beta =/= Season 1. Regardless of what anyone says, the Beta didn't have all the content of Season 1, even if the story didn't progress past Ch5. Good or bad, there was no Mrs Hill talking about Nika's previous skill with basketball, no Seigbert, no Dwight, Robin, and Sasha in the bar, no stalker Cheeto in the clothes store, no mention of NIka's previous criminal charge. Those things were scenes that were adjusted, but they still required work. Replay the beta and persuade yourself that the old renders in Ch2 weren't a jarring change.

There's still things I prefer before the rework was complete, but that's an old topic. Season 1 has 2200 odd renders that were changed from Ch5 Beta, so they're not the same. Otherwise, why does everyone complain about the jacuzzi scene having been cut?
I don't disagree. But not everybody thinks like we do. It wouldn't surprise me if quite a few players played Ch5 Beta and considered themselves having played the whole Season 1. I'm just offering a possible train of thought.

Ocean's latest estimate was that he was aiming for the Q3 release. And that's a pretty good estimate, if you don't take it as a sacred promise made in blood and sealed with the magic of chaos, but as a rough estimate made on the fly.

Q3 is somewhere between July and September. I think that's still way too optimistic given the 3K renders and cinematics left to do, but I'll take September as the optimistic estimate for now, although I think the end of the year looks more realistic. Then a release before October would be a pleasant surprise.

Do you know how many render he does every two week?
Everything he's willing to share he publishes is the dev logs :)
So I can only make conclusions based on this.

There was a period when he made 1750 renders in two months which gives ~30 renders per day (but that's only SG without WiAB)
There were his benchmarks of the new workstation with the result:
"From now on, I aim for 70 renders a day, but I won't beat myself up if it's "only" 40-50."

Ofc, I think he overestimates as always, there are other tasks that take time, but to complete 3000 static renders in three months by the mid to end of the August he need to make "only" ~35 renders per day.

I know at least several devs who work with similar or even faster speed and produce ~300 renders per week. Yeah, their pictures aren't as advanced as Ocean's and doesn't contain dozens of characters in a single render. But they look pretty decent, pretty close in quality, 8K resolution and high quality character models.
EDIT: I mean they do it without any harm to the other aspects of the game, like writing the script, coding and other...

So it's doable, but with WiAB releasing at the same time and other ongoing activities like creating cinematics or testing and learning new software and animation tricks - I don't know.

Thanks. He's currently sitting at 5100 renders (last post on discord). 40 renders per day, it's 480 every 12 days. Since he's fully focused on SG now, I think optimistically, Q3 is indeed doable.
