not sure what happened between those two but i wish DC would rehire dogeek to help with the tech update

1. as far as i know he suggested the tech update in the first place
2. he works full time
3. judging by the progress the update is making he was also the more skilled coder

yes i know DC would never do this, i'm just saying if he gave a shit about his patreons there would be solutions to speeding up development
As said before, the issue doesn't seem to be coding, but mainly the time it takes to repose every asset in the game. Given how the tracker works, a coding task won't/can't be completed, before the corresponding posing task is done.

Next to that I think that Dogeek's way of working would be especially bad for the tech update, given that he never really seemed to have bothered to actually test his code beyond some very basic stuff, before they released the updates.

:whistle::whistle: Don't mind me, this just reminded me of a wager made last year.
I got robbed of a few # updates, cause he linked to it instead of posting it again and increase the #. We should be at ~80 by now. But since he cheated, the wager is nulled and I keep my $. On top of that sweet sweet shilling $ DC gives me everytime I post in here

Not trying to be a dick pointing this out, just legitimately curious at this point? What year did the tech update start? Like I can't even remember anymore if was it 2020. 2019? 2018?! I don't think it was that far back, and there have been pretty regular content releases during the update, but I'm honestly not sure when it started anymore...

March 31st, 2021. Just go check either the FAQ with all the release dates or the main page/wiki

Hilarious how they doubled the amount of total tasks during that time too, good thing people can actually do basic math

Serious question. Does anyone truly believe that the code refactoring involved in the tech update will actually improve the speed of updates, as was suggested at the outset? I'm sure the intention was to reshape the codebase into something more sleek and easy-to-debug so that the production of new quests could be smoother and quicker to test, but if we're being honest surely we all expect it to be equally cumbersome to dev for, just in different ways?

Annie best girl. Annie when?
2026 at the earliest imo

It certainly seems like it'll make working with these art assests more convenient and intuitive. Then again, I'd still think that the overal savings in time will be minor. Once we return to normal updates, everything more or less depends on how fast DC can deliver the art assets and the really big, time consuming items (scenes, cut scenes, backgrounds etc.) won't be affacted by the tech stuff at all.
All in all I don't think it's going to lead to actually significant improvements in terms of update speed.

Wait until they start bugfixing!
That aside the number of tasks doubled and you got multiple pre-tech updates during that time

If only they could hire a.... Freelancer... to help finish this!

Man, I loved that game. Anything with John Rys Davies is great though. Cant think of anything he's done that was lacking... I even like when he tells you how to wear a seatbelt on the disneyland indiana jones ride.

ok, carry on with your on-topic discussions.

There's no place where any1 on the dev team stated it would go faster. Less of a mess, yes. No need to unfuck the code every build, yes. Might help with outputting test builds for bugfixing, yes. Not "Dc can now draw an entire update within a day and the coder just imports the un-posed assets and the game will output content on its own" .....

Doesn't necessarily mean much if anything. E.g. it's not that uncommon to take what was originally a single task and split it into sub-tasks entered separately for easier tracking and maintenance, but it doesn't affect actual amount of work that needs to be done.

But yes, people who can't do anything beyond basic math might get impressed.

They also almost 3x the amount of done tasks, which means they actually did something, on top of splitting the to-do list just to pad the tracker

The tech update and it's consequences has been a disaster for the human race.
