people are still whining about the length of time it takes to release an update?

as a programmer myself I can tell you, the coding is MUCH EASIER AND QUICKER to do when you have all the pieces , and not just bits here and there. I would imagine most of the coding is all linked together, so if you only have images for one area of the coding you need to do, but don't have images for another area, then it very much possible you going be stopping and starting the coding a lot, which I can tell you is very frustrating.

Yes you can code while images being developed, but considering the images are related to the 4 teachers, the code is going be linked together, and also linked to other areas already in game, its very likely the easiest/quickest way to do the coding, is to wait until all the images/posing/etc is done before starting.

Also if you look at the update history, that is posted in this thread, then you can see there NEVER been an update with 4 characters at one time before, so yes this next update will take longer. That tells me, the 4 teachers are most likely linked together in someway and is why they all being done at same time.

I haven't seen any of the live streaming of drawing though, so I just presume above based on my own programming experience and what I read in this thread, so just an FYI but end of day, no one really knows, got a problem with game developer, then don't be a patreon, its THAT simple.

The Posing can't be done without the art and the Coding cant be done without the Posing, thats why it hasn't moved .

Actually, it can. Or rather it could. Presumably DC has an idea of what each image will look like before he draws it, a sketch if nothing else. Additionally, he has an idea of the story. So, both of these could be sent to the posers and the coders as a rough outline and placement images (a storyboard image, if you will) and they can work around that. Then, when the final art is complete, the placement image file is replaced with the actual image file. Then, if there are slight changes, i.e. image position for clickable assets, this is corrected (which is a pain in the ass but not that time consuming). That way, the posing and the code is 80-90% complete and can be bug checked while waiting for the release art. Once the art is complete then all that is waiting is a quick polish of coding and dialogue, etc. This is how bigger projects are managed and, if he isn't already doing this, he ought to be doing this.

This is all assuming that the progress bar is accurate, this may be happening just not being recorded (that wouldn't be the first.) The other option is that DC is making it up on the fly (which he may well be doing, and is entitled to do). If that is the case there is a slight case to answer in terms of milking and a much greater case to answer in terms of better project management.

Given he says he's worked on other, bigger, projects, I'm going to guess the coders and posers are not good about updating their part of the progress bar rather than the second option.

Many people seem to have a totally wrong approach anyway. Posing and Coding do not matter at all for the time the whole game needs to be developed. Since DC isn't coding or posing himself the only limiting factor is the amount of art/scenes he can draw. Fullstop. He's basically at his limit right now which means as long as he isn't able to find someone who can draw just as well as him (in the same style, quality, creativity and with no need to rework everything, etc.) people could pledge 50.000$ a month and the updates wouldn't come faster. That's the thing with handmade/drawn projects, they can't be done by everyone if we want them to be consistent.

Posing or Coding being a week or two late has no influence on DC drawing for the next update in the meantime and thus doesn't influence the overall schedule at all. All we are talking about is one update being two weeks earlier so that the next update would be released two weeks later because the art wouldn't be done yet. It really doesn't matter. If DC needs 60 to 90 days to draw one update the release schedule will be somewhere around that number of days and nothing will change that.

The only real complaint I think can indeed be adressed by larger amounts of money is the usability of old saves. He could/should (and will, as it seems) indeed find someone who solve's that problem.

that is the reason i don't patreon this game anymore, i used to up to 0.10 but since then it looks like the dev just want the money. in this case $24,119 !!!! somewhat of a big manager salery

it's all the same with the other big games. few of the games really got to an end but other jut abandoned with all kinds of bullshit excuses such and pateraon censors

wheather it's teacher's pet which took about half a year to render 10 pics for update. bb whos making a whole lot of money and just quit after taking all the money DMD who's blaming the patreon but still makes thousands of $ every month

so thats why i dont pay them money anymore they just don't worth it

May I ask what you think would happen to the next update in that case? So in the end you really gain nothing except additional work.

It's important to remember that patreon games aren't normal games where you'll have a final release and that's almost it. In this case there's always a next update to come...

I'm pretty sure that's excactly why he tries to be as economical as possible and not to waste any time or effort on things which cost both and do not benefit the actual content of the game.

The game is free from day 1 and you don't have to pay anything to get it. It's totally ok not to pledge if you feel it's too slow.

Yes, we'll get the first small part in Aunt Diane's next update. After that we'll likely have to wait though. More girls will get pregnant but DC said some days ago that he wants to make one big update including many girls which surely won't happen within the next year. So it's very likely only going to be Diane for quite some time.

thank you very much, I really love this game even losing a lot of time I try to translate some things on the net. And as it has very few games with this theme would be a double win for me.

One would think that a high profile game like this (based on the level of income) would be on their radar already, but so far no action has been taken. Guess the cut they take from this devs income makes them look at the smaller devs first, probably not a good idea to kill the golden goose too quickly.

So the long update cycles worries me more than they irritate me because it would be a shame for this game to get canned due to the Patreon rules before we have more content since it's one of my top 10 porn games.

I don't think you understand my point. Obviously, the next update would be waiting on the final art. I'm not complaining about the time this update is taking. I'm pointing out that a different project management process could reduce some of the wait between when the art is finished and the actual release. Currently, it appears that the coders and posers wait for the art before doing their work which, last time, led to a few weeks between art completion and release. They're working in a linear manner, doing their tasks consecutively not concurrently.

I don't have a problem with that, if it works for him, fine, it's his baby. I was just pointing out that there is a way to speed up release time. In the end, I agree with you, the release would take the same length of time as long as he is unable to find another artist to match his style. Also, I'm not sure if animation could be done simultaneously, and I imagine that's some of the harder work for the poser.

Either way, it'll be released when it's released and I hope the wait will be worth it.

The walkthrough on this site is good enough i just pretty much finished the current updated version and only had a few issues but it was not that hard the game pretty much tells you what to do. The main thing is reading what the people say and talking to the characters you are working on. So lets say you are trying to get Mia just talk to her the mom and father and later on you must talk to another character you well know who when you get to the part.

Hi guys, this is my first post on this forum. Just wanna say hi to all the people around here, by strongly recommending this game. IMHO, Summertime Saga is one of the best h games around. Good plot, beautiful art, fun gameplay, h scenes are hot. Can't wait to see how massive the next update is going to be. Respect to Darkcookie!

First off I personally am ok with DC taking his time. I just have a real dislike for the you don't like it don't buy it argument which can always be translated as "I don't like your opinion and I want you gone"

Complaints are a form of criticism, even if it's as basic as this update is taking. In terms of whether the update is taking too long that's a matter of opinion.
