OK the game style clearly isn't for everyone, and everyone has their own tastes so that's OK.

But if your dislike raises to the point where you "just don't have it in me(you) right now to slog through this one again" what is the point of coming to the thread?

This thread has detractors but those who still do play and of course it has fans like any thread. But if you are at the point of not even bothering to play, why come here?

Is it to promote anyone who complains? Is it to argue with anyone who likes it? Is it a weird need to stay in the conversation in spite of not liking the mandated topic? What is it?

Just seems so very odd.
I wasn't complaining to or trying to antagonize anyone. I visit the thread from time to time to see how the development is going. Just because I've had my fill of the devs writing "style" doesn't mean I'm done with it altogether. Also, last time I checked anyone could express their feelings about the project, fan or otherwise. It is a forum after all.

Why do these Adult Visual NOVELS have so much writing in them? /s Also, did you know that some people really do have an inner monologue/inner narration at this level in real life. Given how much he day dreams in the story, this does actually line up. He is a classic over thinker, I am the same.

I played through ch1 and 2 and saw no footjob. Which chapter is it in and how is it triggered? Is it easy to miss?

I never said you couldn't express anything I simply asked "what's the point."

I said that for those who play but complain I see why, as they still play. But you said you don't so.....

I was curious if you had an accomplishment in mind. I have about 5 ish threads I stopped liking the VN/Game for whatever reason so I put them on ignore and never think about them anymore. Which is why I was curious what motivation brings a person back to a thread of "dislike" as I clearly am not that type of person.
Your assuming an awful lot from just one response to another user. Did I somehow offend you? I don't know what your after here.

There seems to be a lot of echo chamber going on here with the complainers. Say your piece; walk away; don't harp on it incessantly. I suspect the thread can't block them, so "ignore" it is.

Are you familiar with the definition of the term "Novel"?

The POV is what I look for in games personally, it's much more realist in my opinion.
Likewise. I find it more immersive, too. Albeit every camera perspective has their pros and cons.

The SL's MC is indeed a whiny little twerp and if it wasn't for the cousin I probably wouldn't keep playing just on that fact alone.
[…] The dumbass really needs to keep his mouth shut, literally.
Relatable. The cousin is my favorite, too. I wouldn't phrase it that harsh like you, but I agree. The MC is indeed unbelievable dense and naïve. He genuinely seems to be a nice and honest guy. But what gives if he is just as naïve and dense.

[…] I'm actually working on a mod [for Melody] […]. The bulk of it removes 1000+ lines of MC inner monologue and make the people talk like actual human beings.
[…]
The mod is for Melody. I really like the relationship you form with her and out of the three it feels the most "real" I think. But I don't like how everyone talks so properly at the start of week 5. It's the same with all the games though. "May I ask", "Shall we", "Would you like", "In a moment", that sort of thing among others. I know there is technically nothing wrong with it but it's not how many people actually speak to each other. It also trims down the conversations. I don't need to know that Melody is going to brush her teeth and get changed in the morning before we meet, it's a given and completely irrelevant information. […]
Agreed. But if it's used in a certain kind of way it can work. I know one example of a game out of my head that used this proper language (even a bit more proper or formal) in a competent way. House in the Rift. It's just one character in that game that speaks like this, the Succubus Azraesha. She has a varied expression in how she speaks, in her body language and a broader range of facial expressions. That combined with her sharp wit, her cheekiness and her caring nature gives her class and makes her interesting. And then she also has both a kinky and a romantic side. The writing is honestly top-notch. Best succubus ever in that regard. There is no competition.

I know it's not for everyone but I still plan to upload it when I'm done for other like minded people.
I am quite curious to see how your mod turns out. If I'm playing Sunshine love, I have started holding down the CTRL key when a round bracket appears at the start of a line. Much better that way.

That sounded kind of mean again, but I think the criticism is needed and legitimate. Nevertheless, or because of this, I wish the development team much success and hope that they continue to improve themselves.

I've been following Mr. Dots since DMD and the animations have improved noticeably from DMD to Melody and even more so from Melody to Sunshine Love. The render quality has improved a lot, especially compared to the first game. However, the facial expressions are really too limited and samey (especially noticeable with the twins). But still it is apparent that apart from the writing, every area of the game has improved more or less.

So please don't take my criticism as a bashing of the game, but rather as honest and direct feedback without beating around the bush.

I guess you missed my spoiler, huh? Rae may lake formally put it's not overly "Proper" or robotic like the dialogues in this one. They're also almost always important to the actual progression of the plot or the characters. The same can't be said for this one however.

I actually forgot about the mod with the move I've been going through. It's still half done...

That's just personal preference. Some people like it slow, others prefer a minimum of text or something in between. I say it depends on how good the text is.

If the images are used well for the story and to build up the (sexual or story-related) tension and if the dialogue is engaging and the writing compelling, then text enhances a visual novel in my eyes. As long as the visual aspect doesn't get the short end of the stick, of course.

Which one is it? I read two posts of yours and didn't see a spoiler. Either I'm blind or you're referring to an other comment of yours that I didn't read nor referred to

It happens. Real life comes first. If, when your life settles down again, you decide to continue your project, please keep us posted :)

Hey all, I wanted to drop in and officially say hello since I really have not done that yet. If you don't know, I am a new member of the team and very little is known about me, so I did want to provide a little info about that and my thoughts about some of the complaints. (well, at least one of the complaints :p)

All the complaints about the expressions I totally get and somewhat agree. But at the same time, I cannot completely fault MrDots for it because of the limited time he has to make the renders and build out the script/game. It can be very time consuming to focus on all the little details like that when you know there is a deadline. Having to make a 1000+ renders as well as many animations in such a short amount of time along with everything else that needs to be done is very difficult. (And that doesn’t count anything that needs to be done over again)

I am sure if there was not that restriction of time, there would more focus put into the little details like different expressions. When it comes time to start making another game, I believe the team will want to get away from the “set release date” which will give a little more wiggle room to pay closer attention to things like that, but at the same time still try and get it done in a reasonable amount of time.

I know when I was making the Shortcake date renders, I really tried my best to use different expressions here and there. But also I wanted to make sure I used the same expressions that MrDots uses as to keep the scenes feeling like they belonged in the game and not just thrown in there by some random person lol. I was trying to pay attention to all the little details too as I made the scenes. (I have a bit of an OCD problem when it comes to that )

Of course, nobody knows this, but from the time I started making the renders (about 3 months ago) until literally the last night before it had to be released, the game wound up with about 270ish renders (including the doughnut images), but I made closer to maybe 800 renders because I had to continually redo them for various issues, imperfections and tweaks that I personally just could not tolerate. (Basically, because I am still learning and new to rendering.) Making matters harder, I really had no specific script to follow at the time since it hadn't been written yet, so I pretty much had to guess how things would flow, and what would be needed till I got the script. I also had to deal with real life (having surgery) and my day job of course. I worked very hard on those renders, and the last week was full of very sleepless nights.

It is my hope that with me helping out more and more down the road, these complaints become rarer, and MrDots can put more focus into quality, not quantity. I think having someone else help him make renders will really take a lot of pressure off him. I am not saying for sure that I will being doing this on a permanent/regular basis yet since this was sort of a trial run to see how the fans would like my story and the renders, but so far I feel that the majority of you all did enjoy the Shortcake date scenes (at least I have not seen any major complaints about it…...yet).

I wish I could say that I did render all of her scenes, but since I have a full time job and I don't have the best hardware, I was pretty limited with some of the things I was able to do, so the scenes in her bedroom sadly were not mine. I really wanted to have more animation for my scenes, but even just rendering a simple 3-4 second looping clip in 4k, takes me 12+ hours, and I cannot be without my computer that long while I am working my day job.

If this becomes a more common thing for me, I really want to get a new GPU (right now only working with a single RTX 3060 and an older GTX 1070), but living alone and not doing this as an actual job that provides an income makes that very hard. I am very happy to help MrDots's team where I can and I am not doing this for any compensation, nor would I ask it of them. I am doing this because I want to see great things from them and their games, and if I can help with that, I will. But I can only do so much given my limitations.

Hopefully, as time goes on, you all will see an improvement as I do more scenes and that allows MrDots more time to focus on everything else. (If things go that way of course) I really hope we are able produce better quality content for all of you. Thanks! :giggle:
