VN Ren'Py Superhuman [v0.999] [WeirdWorld]

I must confess that when I first saw Superhuman of WeirdWorld, I found the graphics of this visual novel so bad that I didn't want to try reading it. But when I downloaded it (many players recommended it), I started to get curious about the main character's abilities, the world building, and then stayed for the story at the beginning of Mafia Arc.

Still, the graphics for the first half were normal, the sex animations in the game were not sexy to me at all. After Mafia Arc, I just went with the flow, the story was engaging, the world building was great, and the main character's great journey from a train simulating a fry in a zoo to fighting a giant A monster. When I stopped caring about the art, it started to get better in the last 2/5 of the game. It toppled Eternum to become the best AVN I've ever played.

1. Can anyone point me to more hidden gems that are of the same level of writing as this. Of course I have played Artemis, LoF, BaD, Once a life time, Being A Rockstar, Bare Witness, Harem Hotel, The house in the rift, Ripples,... and some other popular games.
2. There is a song that plays when you talk to Amber (I think in the monster world, I don't remember exactly when), the melody is sad but still has a bit of hope. Can you give me the name so I can search for it, I have tried some songs in the song index catalog but can't find it.

So, who's the weakest and strongest of the big three? I suppose Bernhardt is the strongest in raw power, but Malik has yet to demonstrate his most powerful ability "Plank heat", and an ability seemingly weaker than plank literally destroyed a whole planet and rebirthed it as a Star or something close, so I wouldn't know.

Now Henrick would be.. the one with the best hacks? Something like Grand Zeno from DBS, not the best in physical combat but could erase you in an instant?

Malik big weakness is that his power will make collateral damage if fighting above a threshold (the heat of his attacks against Ella broke through the Ex dimension and into the real world, and well, it's heat, so it propagate), but unlike Bernhard, he does seem to really care about normal humans.

This is also basically the plot of Worm (webserial). There are quite a few similarities that I see, including the powers themselves belonging to distinct categories, evolutions (second triggers in Worm), a shadowy secret organisation that has the ability to create artificial power serums/pills (H.E.R.O. vs Cauldron), a potential desperate alliance to fight off the world-ending threat, MC being a weirdo/loser virgin at the start of the story, etc.
I'd be absolutely shocked if WeirdWorld didn't use Worm as direct inspiration.

Hi y'all. Today's my 18th birthday. Just wanted to say that I am part of this community since I first played the update that ended after Valravn's fight, when Cole made S.I.N public for the first time in that TV interview with Brianna which may have been at least 2 years from now(?) First fandom I was entirely into and not just looking over the top. Superhuman has been my favorite Renpy game since I knew about it, Eternum by Caribdis is as good if anyone would like to take a look. I love y'all, keep existing and I'll gladly wait 3 months for another Superhuman update.

I think that's all up to this point, SIN and HERO have different objectives, so they both would like the other group to dissapear so they can be the only group of superhumans

When a monster attacks a human, the humans immunologic system can also fight off the powers, leaving them human, its rare but it can happen, according to the HERO lecturer

how random are decisions in this game, i had games were even small unimportant decisions would later randomly change the story even when it didn't make sense

something like you help a girl that lost her glasses and 10 hours later in the story she therefor trusts you too much and dies because she for whatever reason now thinks you are always going to help her

and yes this specific scenario once happened in a game, i can't remember the name, i mostly remember it was very bad

They aren't necessarily random. There's choices that will give you stat changes (i.e. increasing corruption, power, skill, or character relationship) and there are certain thresholds for things like power and skill that you want to hit in order to win certain boss battles. Those are going to be the ones that kill you down the line because you didn't train a certain skill enough.

The one thing i don't get with H.E.R.O is their eugenics program. Superhumans are sterile, so they want to create a transhuman civilization that can't reproduce but are long-lived? Only a select few will be supposedly immortal(we don't even know if it's possible) since getting to level 5 is no easy feat. They do know this kinda means extinction right? Unless they plan to breed with monsters which defeats the purpose of their organization and eugenics program.

and yes this specific scenario once happened in a game, i can't remember the name, i mostly remember it was very bad

the biggest long term decision factors are centered around: power/skill/corruption stats, whether you kill specific characters, what relationship you try to go for for a character (mostly self contained, hooking up with character A isn't going to cause them to die in character B's side story), and (most importantly) if demi is a boy or a girl. Going left or right I think might have long term effects, but I can't remember if it's anything outside of flavor (or maybe future stuff). Aside from that, choices have pretty immediate consequences (running vs. fighting, trusting instinct vs. trying to calculate, etc).

I think when it comes to scene narration, mystery, skill development, and epic battles, nothing really comes close to Superhuman. At least, I’ve never seen anything that hits quite the same. Sure, other games can be well-written too, but they usually carry a completely different vibe, like Being a DIK, for example.


Funny thing is, I actually went through a similar experience. I downloaded Superhuman and deleted it twice. Honestly, that first scene with the two monsters didn’t help at all. The women had those oversized tractor wheels boobs, Ella had this awkward cross-eyed look... everything just felt off. Then I’d reach the first party, and bam, I’d lose all interest.


But eventually, I decided to push through. I thought, “There’s no way this many people love it and I’m seeing something completely different.” So I kept reading, trying to let go of that knee-jerk reaction of “if something looks weird or bad, it probably is...” This time, though, I really tried to understand what was going on. And that’s when it clicked. It wasn’t like most other games at all.


There’s actual brilliance behind it. A genuinely gripping mystery, characters and monsters so much stronger than the protagonist that they could end him in a heartbeat. That kind of tension made me want to understand everything, to stay connected, to see how the protagonist would grow and evolve.


And the side characters? Some of them are absolutely badass too. That just completed the whole package for me, haha.

I'll be honest with you, I had the same impression, it felt really dragged out and kind of all over the place. It’s that feeling of being stuck in the same spot for too long, and you just want to move on. On top of that, I think the fact that the protagonist didn’t seem to show any real progress made it all feel even heavier.


Honestly, I was expecting more battles, maybe some new abilities, or development for the others like Michael, for example. But maybe if you play it all in one go, the impression might be different. In the end, I thought it was acceptable.

Problem is the eugenics program was created before the knowledge of a monster invasion, the gods etc. They didn't even know the monster tide currently happening was actually a thing, even with precognition and clairvoyance, they were in the dark about it as evident by their surprise during the initial stages of the invasion. So in essence, they literally intended for the extinction of humankind since the early founding, the program sterilizes humans without superhuman compatibility. It feels like a huge oversight in the narrative. What the hell kinda scientists and world leaders think genocide & extinction of their species is the best future? Likely the author will fix that by making sterility curable or something.

Admittedly i felt that it was a boring arc too. Monster world arc where you explore a foreign world screams an Adventure Tale. But we hardly get anything worthy of an adventure. The narrative was too muted, the adventure & exploration lacks stimulus and quite lite. I like the lore dumps, it's the only good thing in that arc. But it's not enough to carry the arc alone. The character & relationship development is present but it's pretty mediocre.

I want a goddamn ADVENTURE, not a vacation!!!! NOT talk, talk, sightsee 3 locations, more ceaseless talking in your dreams followed by a tour to the museum, visit the tourist trap city & then talk, fuck, talk and go back home.

Major missed opportunity.

Same, I've feeling Superhuman has a lot of similarities with Worm, not a bad thing since that is also quite a good read, even beyond the similarities, there is also that 'vibe', don't know how to describe it, but is like that grim/edgy yet cool feel that was present a lot on late 2000s and early 2010s fiction

Also, WW was totally cockblocking us with the return to Earth, constantly teasing something big happening there. So, when certain sections felt too drawn out, my mind kept wandering back to Earth. But then, whenever something interesting started happening again, I immediately forgot all about it, lmao.

The problem was that the earth was more hyped than the monster world, at least in the entire arc I kept wanting to go back and see what was going on earth.

I feel like the whole thing will be far more palatable when playing it as a complete product without months of wait between, especially if it's the last time the friend group gets to all be together, relax, party, etc.

I loved the whole arc, if anyone remembers the Bone comic by Jeff Smith, it reminded me of the Ghost Circles volume in the absolute best way. At a certain point the length and exhaustion is part of the story that wouldn't work so well if it was much shorter or montage'd.
