There’s no denying this game has some absolutely killer storylines. When it hits, it hits hard. But the quality of the narrative has taken a nosedive lately. We’ve seen crucial plot points delayed for two, sometimes three consecutive updates, stretched out in a way that feels less like building tension and more like an inability to just get on with it. What’s the play here? Is this a cash grab, or is the dev just some impossibly honest perfectionist terrified of releasing 1.0? Frankly, I’ve already formed my goddamn opinion.
Let’s talk about these recent updates. On paper, they’re fine. But in practice? They’re missing that fucking spark. That vital energy that made you feverishly click for the next line of dialogue is just… gone. The story is technically moving, but it’s become bland. The delays to the core plot aren't smooth or intriguing; they’re clunky, obvious, and frustrating.
And don’t you dare come at me with that “but the world-building!” sanctimonious bullshit. I’m not saying the lore and side characters don’t matter. What I am saying is that there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it. The right way integrates it seamlessly into the main narrative. The wrong way—the way they’ve been doing it—is to halt the protagonist's journey dead in its tracks (hello monster world) for months to focus on some side character’s boring ass domestic problems that have zero bearing on the main plot. This isn't The Witcher 3; it’s a visual novel. A picture book. I’m not waiting a quarter of a year for an update where 70% of the content is about shit that has nothing to do with me (MC).
I've no idea wtf you're talking about.
First, I will admit, the first two parts of the Monster World arc were a little slow, with the constant traveling sim. But these last two updates have been absolute fire.
The Alice update was peak and to me it was perfect, that update featured enough lore dive and confirmed and revealed a fuck ton of backstory AND it was absolutely action packed. The arena showdown was insane with Alice blasting through old and new monsters before fighting Danu, I absolutely read through every line and savored it. None of the world building is irrelevant, we needed to know of how the Monster World works, we needed to know about the Chosen, we needed to know that previous human worlds were invaded by Monsters, that is all essential.
Anyone who says anything bad about the Alice update is dead wrong.
This last update was also fantastic, we are finaly back on Earth, we see the Mc and his crew make a fucking badass entrance anihilating a A class Godzilla before the bewildered on-lookers, we finay got to see everyone again, we got to see the Mc be a absolute badass bitch-slapping Yuren. We got to see the boys again, the gals, we get some insane ramps for future conflicts, such as tracking down Langdon, Tanos and the rest of SIN, we get a possible Jared and Cole confrontation, we get some insane hints that the Black Mouth is one hell of a Chosen, we learn that Malik and Zack have gone missing which is a huge deal.
And ofc before these two I for one really liked the Monster World arc, trainning with and bonding with everyone, the Mc learning and seeing the epic showdown beetwen Sylla and Indra, fighting new monsters, the battle at the Hexenringe portal, Michael's sacrifice.
And also all the heartfelt drama about Liz and Amber, and the growing camraderie of the main cast, I loved all of it
And you can dislike the world building portion all you like I think they are fantastic and essential, I loved reading about what happened to previous human inhabited worlds and finding out fragments of them.
To be honest idk what to tell you, I just think you're absolutely wrong. The writing is as good as it has ever been and I for one am not dissapointed in the slightest.
With the Mc unlocking his sealed memories, the Eye ominously warning him of a impending event, Ella stating it clear the Mc is her Chosen, Aos giving hints that the Mc will play a big role in humanities future, the story is still centered around the Mc. But I for one enjoyed learning of the rest of the cast.
Honestly, you're a prime example of why developers should not always take everyone's yapping to heart. I mean again, the Alice update and this latest had a fuckton of vital information for the nerds, and a fuckton of action for the rest, yet you're still disappointed ? Sheesh, true what they say it's impossible to please everyone and some people will always complaing about one thing or another and ignore the big picture.
