A playful game that delivers what most people would want from initial release.
My personal wishlist for some work/rework would be:
Good job. I wish you all the very best with your project.
My personal wishlist for some work/rework would be:
- I'd like to see Rick attend some of the lectures with Professor Akbar. Extra points for some psychedelic style dreams about his Mom/Sis while falling asleep in class. Introduce the idea of mind control to Rick just before he starts to fall asleep, wake up to some weird symbols on the class board, ideally something that looks ancient Egyptian or Sumerian. Then the obvious "make sure you do the homework about Sumerian defensive wards so that the world doesn't end" warning at the end of the class. Rick instead goes home and picks up his homework book - only to be distracted by Anna doing some stretches outside on the decking. Do the whole lot of a series of 3 to 5 separate lectures, while you are still world building and introducing characters.
- Double extra points if Rick accidentally breaks an urn alleged to contain the essence of an ancient Sumerian deity or mythical creature, while in Prof. Akbar's office.
- After his initial failure to hypnotize Anna, I'd like to Rick return to Prof. Akbar's class to say he's been wasting his time and how none of this crackpot shit is of any use to anyone. Prof Akbar pulls out an ancient tome and suggest he reads it. Extra points if he wakes up the following morning with his cheek lay against the final page of the book - but with no memory of having read any of it. Alternatively Akbar could give Rick a ring, neckless or bracelet. Something to help him focus his power.
- Oddly, I'd have liked to see Rick make LESS progress in the first release. Something needs to go wrong more often to make the eventual success all that much sweeter. But then I do tend to favor slow-burn games where the teasing is done well. I'm not suggesting the pacing is wrong, only that I'd prefer it be slower. Personal preference.
- Another female character. Completely unobtainable. Preferably red hair and freckles. Seemingly resistant to Rick's influence... laughs it off, each time he tries. Maybe only initially seen in the background when going out for a meal, then again in the background at the library or something. Might not even speak to her for the first time for 2 or 3 releases. She could be Rick's white whale - where players need to make exactly the right choices throughout the game to have a chance of unlocking her.
- I'd also like to see a few of the rookie "3 wishes" style mistakes. A loophole or failure to think through the full consequences of the instructions. Those annoying unintended consequences of saying "almost" the right thing. (Maybe Anna is brought back my Police, having gone running nude. Or Carol invites a friend over the house and sparks fly when both Anna and Carol can't understand why anyone would be upset about them sitting in their own damned house entirely naked.
Good job. I wish you all the very best with your project.
