Why do the good games die young?!
The 1.0 version has been released on January 29th 2018. And it was in development since 2013. Most games with a porn element die even without hitting their first or second year (I'm talking about western games). I doubt I would have called this game young or digging it's grave yet. But answering your question, the most common reason is that developers are losing their motivation to continue, which is not the case for Meandraco yet.Why do the good games die young?!
If you're are rebuilding the game bottom up with new engine, for free, having to wrangle appeasement releases into-semi workable states are a waste of time.I think the Abandoned tag is justified. Doesn't matter if the game is free or not, it's been 3 years since the last update.
Honestly, the dev is coasting on people's good will and expecting them to take his word for it when he says he's "working on it". It may be so but without concrete evidence, he could claim to be the prince of Saturn for all we know... IMO pictures alone do not quantify as "evidence", not when it has become a repeated excuse over the years. He's an artist, it's not difficult to make some fancy pictures and call it "progress" just to keep people stringed.
Any other game under the same circumstances and people would roast the dev alive, but since Teraurge is pretty niche and unique, they are willing to tolerate anything just because there's no alternative to look forward to. It has become a bit of a sunk cost fallacy; people been waiting for a long time now, what's another two or four years in the grand scheme of things? Either that or they don't want to admit to themselves the possibility of this being one big waste of time, a lie or a pipe dream.
Is it really so hard to release an update per year, even if incomplete and buggy, just to prove progress is being made? Is it really? I mean, at this point he could just pull the project off the internet and make it private... not that different from the current situation tbh. Bring out the faceplam emojis and call me entitled. I don't care. The game is promising but it's been 3 years, people are well within their right to assume this is dead until proven otherwise.
Well, don't expect people like me to fully "tolerate" your opinion, since you are roasting on a free unique project. This is becoming a very strange thing when people are randomly starting to trash talk about a passion project of one artist, or even more when a tag on a porn site (which doesn't have anything to do with a development of a game) triggers such emotional response.I think the Abandoned tag is justified. Doesn't matter if the game is free or not, it's been 3 years since the last update.

I specifically asked for an update a year to prove progress is being done. How you went from that to assume I want a monthly update is beyond me. Also don't forget we're in a pirate forum - content locked behind paywalls aren't exactly a problem here. Even if the dev can only dedicate 1 hour a day to this game, at the end of the year he should have something to show, doesn't matter if its buggy and filled with placeholder art (since that's usually what takes the longest to make). I'm not asking for a 5-star tech demo, I'm asking for something playable, as proof of progress....
I can only guess that you really liked this game, or like it even now, but you can't bear with a fact that it takes too much time for a new update. Maybe you want Teraurge to be like CoC2 or TiTs, with their constant gameplay updates, but would really like to see such a garbage burnout they have become? Maybe you want to see something like Kemo Coliseum, their team has been releasing news each month, but it's hidden behind patreon paywall and that game has been in development for fifteen years with only one free demo ever released?

About that blog... the last time he posted there was 8 months ago (December 2021). And the one before that was from a year prior to it (December 2020). Sure, he has no obligation to come here, in fact, many developers don't and some hate us outright. However, I reckon F95 sees more activity than both his blog and Discord combined. Heck, I found Teraurge because of this site. This a piracy sharing site, he has his own blogspot site and patreon page.
While I agree that this is a project with not much passion involve, or at least the dev wasn't passionate about it for some years. I think that people is right in the sense that this game is weird as shit and the dev is working knowing that xenophilia is a very niche genre and probably will not give them money in a long term while the game is big and well written with a lot of work behind.I will never understand those white knights trying to defend games, like it's their own creation lmao. Or maybe they are paid actors or something, but you can't deny that 3-4 years is too much for a single update. And that emphasis on "passion project" is just hilarious. I get it that for dev it's just a hobby and that he didn't promise anything, so it's ok, but man... Why would you, pirate site's users, try to justify this long absence? It's just beyond me.
The development time is admittedly getting long, but the developer isn't getting paid for it. Why moan constantly unless you're a customer entitled to compensation? The developer isn't obliged to provide anything to anybody. The "white knights" are about the same as slapping a mosquito. The background whining is getting annoying and is starting to border harassment. Calling out unjustified bitching is called being a decent human being.I will never understand those white knights trying to defend games, like it's their own creation lmao. I never said that the game is bad and i personally like the theme, but it's just ridiculous to protecc this long ass wait. While I agree that this is a project with not much passion involve, or at least the dev wasn't passionate about it for some years. People is over defensive toward this project, that is truth, but also we can't complain that much because at least until now the dev has been very open and is not doing anything scummy.
Agree that four years is absurd and ridiculouse but also they aren't in debt with us over anything.
Bitching and whining won't help the development time, neither their financial support. But at least i can somehow understand those people. But trying to make up excuses for this long wait is something i personally can't understand. The development time is admittedly getting long, but the developer isn't getting paid for it. If he didn't care about that he wouldn't show up once in a blue moon telling people he's "still working on it". This means he cares about people's expectations (to a degree) and that he wants to keep folks engaged in the project. However, after 3 years with no meaningful updates, you're going to need a bit more than pictures and "trust me, bro" to keep people interested in your project. They don't owe you or me anything, much less having to "prove" Teraurge is still being made.
Everyone had been warned that Flash was going to die, all the devs had a few years in advance to update their frameworks. Many did not, even though they were aware of it.If he didn't care about that he wouldn't show up once in a blue moon telling people he's "still working on it". People keep saying it's free and a hobby but that's not the crux of the issue for me, I just don't like being misled and given false hopes. This game is a like a zombie - it's not dead but not really alive either. I hate the uncertainty. Calling it a "passion project" implies it's being worked on semi-regularly, but it has been years since we've seen anything significant. The new engine excuses him somewhat, but not entirely. Flash died last year but the game hadn't been updated long before that.
Also, according to his last blog post, he had been working "semi-seriously" on an Unity version of the game, along with the main version, as a form of precaution (I guess in case Flash went kaput, which it did.) The switch took some effort but eventually he found Unity to be more enjoyable, efficient and less troublesome to work with than AIR ever was. He also said large swaths of the game's code had been translated/ported into the new engine, but some were still missing. This was 8 months ago.
The way he worded it gave me the impression he would be further along. It's not like he was caught with his pants down when Flash died... he had been working on the new engine for a while. Someone in the previous page said that we can expect a new version any time between Christmas this year and next summer. I guess if he manages to release it during Christmas then I'll count it as a yearly update, since the last blog post he made was back in December...
A bit off-topic here but...Why moan constantly unless you're a customer entitled to compensation?
