It's understandable when the game caters specifically to a certain kink, like if a game is about NTR, or a Futa protagonist (I have gathered this is another that is very contentious), but you can't tell me there is no way to develop a story/character without the unavoidable depiction of major kinks, one of which is arguably the most contentious on the site.

Usually I am interested in the story someone wants to tell. So I can’t think why I would want to avoid anything. Even if it’s ugly. If it’s something I really am not into, like gay porn, I would simply not play the game at all.

Incest and impregnation/pregnancy are my biggest ones. I don't mind lolis myself as long as they are of legal age (and I say this because there are people out there in real world that are in their 20s or 30s but for whatever reason they just look extremely young, it's not their fault, and should that be a stoppage to finding happiness and love?), but my loli preference is oppai loli, haha. i'd rather a dev stick to HIS/HER story and not waver to please the ranting masses...even if i'm not a fan of the content..the purity of original vision is maintained and the dev usually puts his best into it..once the "opinion" tinkering starts..the vision becomes blurry..watered down and loses what attracted people in the first place..so..no matter how happy or disgusted or whatever you are with this game..it is a success if the dev sticks to his guns and these emotions towards it continue..because he succeeded in having an effect on us.

Well, you're missing something. When people play these games, it's almost like it's their story.
In this game, in particular, it's from a first-person perspective, literally and figuratively. You're making the decisions, you're choosing the path, it's your story, not the developers. The developer is just laying the groundwork for you to play out your story. That is perfectly depicted in games like Dating my Daughter or Dreams of Desire. They do it well too.
So when there are experiences that are unsettling or just not to the players liking, it's more personal.
Having an ability to simply not see scenes that are contentious, and have them not play a major part in the story, isn't difficult. It's been done so many times in many games. Again with DMD, there is one scene of urination, and it's skippable... also, if you want to remain faithful to your daughter, you can. It's all about the choices.
At least, that's my perspective. I know from my work when I design, I'm not designing for me, and I'm not designing for my client, I'm designing for my clients' customers.

In most games the ipatch isn't necessary really, like, you could just pretend that the roommate is a secret code for sister or whatever, but in My Sister My Roommate, the patch is necessary, because it's not just a simple incest patch, there's scenes locked behind it, scenes of pure comedy gold and that alone is worth slapping the patch in the game xD
It seems to me that the Dev has also succeeded in one other thing... getting people talking about his/her game.

One thing I really would love if a game would really focus on, is actual Oedipus/Electra complex and get it right, it's pretty intriguing and adds a whole new depth to the otherwise "normal" incest
