Well, good news and bad news.
I attempted my idea with the art I had and... Well, I just didn't have enough. I can make something that works, but I am not satisfied.

So, I did this.
Let me know what you think, these are very early models.

Probably going to end up remaking the entire art myself. It doesn't really have the same flair as the original art, but I think it'll work, and this will allow me to add more content.
(For reference, I have 3 sex scenes. With the new art, I am planning on having over 10. Sex is not the only thing I am planning to add more off, but it is the part the new art most dramatically affect since I had so few of it).

The 3D models don't look good at all and cheapen the whole thing. If I were you I would stick to 2D.

The female could work. The male need another shot, he now looks like one of those retarded sole heirs that you keep alive despite knowing they are nothing more then a living dildo then a suitable sucessor.

I definitely prefer the more detailed ones on the far right and left. If you need more time to have the artwork drawn, I suggest taking the time for it. It may mean a longer wait but the improvement to the characters would be worth it.

Alright, I'll make it with what I have in 2d.

I just want to point out one thing, however. It's not a matter of time. It's a matter that I don't actually have the skills to draw 2D myself and need to hire people to do it. It's very expensive (between 50-200$ per piece, depending on details wanted) and sometimes people are also a bit unreliable, especially when dealing with large orders.

So, I'm going to do what I can.

Alright, I just wanted to state that the rework is in process. I have no ETA on when it will be completed, as it is still very early in the rework and there is much to do (still in the design phase for the most part).

As it is a full rework and I am aiming for a complete game rather than a shitty alpha version with no content like I did for the first release, this might take a while.
I was informed by staff that the [abandonned] tag is likely to be put on this thread before I am done with the rework.

I'm going to be making other games in the meantime, so don't be surprised. They are part of the development process of this rework, as I am currently improving my coding and testing gameplay elements in my other games so that I can make an actually fun gameplay for this.

And, just to preempt the comment, no working on multiple games is not hindering development, as I'm still in the process of testing the concept and validating which gameplay elements I will use (as well as learning how to do stuff like drag and drop with ren'py and other features that will give me more possibilities when it comes to remaking this game).

I am sorry for how long it took until I started working on this project again, as well as for this new delay, however I believe it is best I take the time to do this properly, especially since I've been earning some money with my other projects, which will in turn be used to fund additional scenes for this project.

So, I hope this post will satisfy you for the time being. Just to temper expectations, I wouldn't expect an update on this project before the next 2-3 months at the very least. I know that I initially stated it could be done within 3 weeks, however I wasn't satisfied with the gameplay I ended up with, and given that I'm sticking with 2D art, 3 weeks was just unreasonable as a delay to find an artist, commission the art and write the new scenes for it.

Hi everyone.

So, I have some news.

First and foremost, I have finally found how I want to redevelop The Dark Knight. At first, I wanted to make a small concept, like an alchemist's game or something of the like, and inject the current story into that, however it felt very cheap, so I instead tried to go with a gameplay that would at least match the story.

What I ended up with is a game that is more oriented on gameplay, but that will also showcase the story so that I can preserve what is great about the current game. I am not quite certain what the gameplay will be like, however I am looking at implementations that would work somewhat similarly to Slay The Spire. (So, gameplay oriented on increasing in power through events, no going back, story told through visuals, and a lot of fighting.)

I'm currently looking at using unreal engine to make this instead of ren'py, as ren'py is not quite suitable enough for my needs, and there are frameworks on unreal that will make my life substantially easier provided that I can learn the engine in a timely manner. For that reason, I dont know how long it's going to take me to remake the project.

In addition, I have decided to sell the current project's art, so I can fund development.

I used to be happy with the art I had, however I feel constricted with having to use this art for the game. It is extremely limiting, since I currently don't have money to commission new art, and even if I did, the style is hard to match unless I get someone extremely talented (and costly) to make it. This is forcing me to stick to what the art shows, making it impossible for me to change anything, and it's also stopping me from adding anything to the game. So, instead of trying to use that, I will sell the current art, and see how much it makes me. From there, it will allow me to either comission new art, or to find other ways of getting art for this project, depending on how much I can raise.

I know not everyone is going to be happy about it, however currently the choice for me is either to sell the art so that I can buy new one, or to just abandon the project and let the art rot, because I'm not willing to continue like this. I hope you'll find that I made the right choice between these two options.

This is a sad but understandably necessary sacrifice.

Hi.

So, this month, I've attempted to enact my solution. Making TDK the way I was thinking sounded like a big project, so I started with an attempt at a smaller game.

Spoiler alert, it was a bit of a disaster, and I realized that in order to do something like that, it's going to take me several months of learning, the issue being mostly about the manipulation of 3d models using blender. I've scrapped the idea, mostly because it's too much work, and I need to learn the essential before I jump the gun and attempt to make something as complex as I'm attempting to do.

Anyway, ehhhhhh, I will confess that I am a bit at my wits end, but I have one last plan, which is theorically possible to act upon in any case. So, here it is:

I'm going to get some practice with a sandboxy visual novel made using daz3d, and if I am able to make that work, I will use that kind of art to remake TDK.

This is not a final decision, as there are multiple things that could change between now and then, but this is where I am at.

I'm sorry if this is taking so long. To be quite honest, this month was really hard on me, as I was pretty down after I failed to make even a small game using unreal. I have decent enough hardware, so I'm hoping daz will work out, and have decent enough graphics that it can give this game justice.

So yeah, there is a lot of hope.

I, like many others, came here expecting this: , and was disappointed. lol
So true. This was not the game F95 expected but the game F95 needed.

Also, I forgot how great CollegeHumor could be :)
