This was one of my favorite games, for a seriously long time. In the middle of development, the decision was made to rework the game, and this is the type of game you can't just skip through to get back to where you were in the story, so I deleted all the files and marked my folder [start over when finished].
I honestly predicted this.
Nearly every time I game gets started over for a rework, it ends up abandoned, because may people simply don't care to start over every single update, when it's just to update the quality of renders from earlier in the game, and change a tiny bit of dialogue.
But, a lot of devs DO milk their followers for every dime they can get. And all of this together can run off a lot of the dev's followers. They lose donations, the game gets abandoned.
Well....
abandoned or not...I still keep my folder in the same status..."start over when finished."

My personal opinion is that the latest patreon post clearly shows that the dev will fail to go professional with his work as he fails to dive into what professional behaviour actualy means.

You cant announce to go full time with a project and write about working routines and at the same time go radio silence for a half year. And even if you go radio silence for that long you cant just write a short post like this with absolutely no worded intentions for the future. Is he still trying to do this as full time project ? We dont know and he didnt care to write about it.

To pause the payments for a while as there was hardly any progress could be a good starting point to get trust back. Maybe the pause will also be some sort of reflection time for him what way he wants to go in the future. But that wouldnt fit into his wording that he still is actively working on the game. While working on the game is good news, it would only work if you actualy do work a while without new money and if at the same time you try to improve communication.

But as of now he is going radio silence again (no new patreon post or discord activity for 2 weeks). The only legit impression you can get from that, is that he still keeps going the easy way and that he sadly did not start to work on getting better with business things.

So while i realy like the game and his work, atleast for me it is clear that it wont get better in the future and that hopes for a finished (whatever that means) game realy need to go a very long way.

It was a good game, but like the other posts, the fact he went silent to the ppl who was supporting him is worrying to say the least, and yea hes posted on there recently(maybe he got word from someone regarding this ) also lets not forget he got money from steam for this, i hope for the future he will put more of an effort into finnishing this game and proving us all wrong.

I've been putting this game on the back burner the 2 years or so that I've been playing these games. Some said it's a must play. I'm thinking about it now that it's on Steam but now see the Abandoned tag. Is it worth it now that it's been tagged as such?

The "Abandoned" tag on this site doesn't mean anything and it's just a system moderators of this site implements as the game uploading rules (see section 3 Prefixes).

Also, this was the dev's latest Patreon post;

For me, I still think it's definitely worth playing but in the end, it's up to you whether you decide to try it or not.

All this is information (the rules and dev post) is public, so pretty much everyone can view it.
Problem is, some people more likely than not just don't bother to.

Hence a game thread gets an Abandoned tag?
Those lazy people just think the game's abandoned when they don't even understand how the tag system works in this site lol

i don't really like devs pausing patreon tbh. I patron multiple devs and i'd rather they continue to have subsription continue to be active than pausing cuz at least with it active, they are still receiving monthly income, and hopefully that's enough motivation for them to continue.
Subscribers can stop subscription anytime they want too.

Pausing subs just means less pressure to the devs and less income too for them. It's a lose-lose. Pausing subs to me, most of the time feels like one step away from abandonment.

I dont like that attitude as it contradicts the common sense: You pay money with the mindset that it will be used in a certain way. What you expect on patreon is a developer working on the game. Yes there are people that dont have that expectation, but the majority surely does. So taking money from patreon while you are not working on the game feels like theft no matter what bullshit patreon writes into there tos.

Your perspective is of course valid aswell. But what you describe is general charity and you would be an idiot to use patreon for that as they take a huge ammount from it. Another problem with it is that you are fine with other people being scammed. And no, the argument "they can cancel there payments anytime" isnt valid for aslong as the developer isnt transparent with wether he is actively working on the game or not.

So to summarize it: a paused patreon isnt a lose-lose situation. It is a lose-win situation. The devs loses money and the patreons win money to spent on other things. To call it a loss because less income for the developer will maybe lessen the motivation to work on the game again is pure bullshit, as the developer didnt have this motivation while he still had a higher income due to a much higher supporter base. It is also not a loss because it is a sign that people reward active developers and that will lead to more games being made. It does harm developers in general if limited money on the market is spent for games not being made.
