Well, in my country it's actually against the consumers protection code to bill stuff without you accepting it...
You did accept it, you accepted when you entered into a reoccurring subscription contract.

...because they state that your inertia of not canceling is not the same as you agreeing to something, so it would be considered scammy here.
It's sorry that your country coddles you like a child instead of treating you like an adult capable of honouring your contracts.

The whole point is that I didn't choose it, I merely forgot about it, it is way different.
You did choose, you chose to enter into a reoccurring subscription contract.

If you don't understand the terms of the contract you plan to enter into, you should research it or hire someone to explain it to you.

And I'm sure is not just me. Lots of people probably probably forgets that stuff, even more so if they support multiple different projects.
There are plenty of forgetful and inattentive people in the world. It's better that they learn how to wipe their chins and bottoms instead of requiring Big Mommy Government to do it for them.

Not necessarily about this dev, but if someone makes some page asking for donations to help him make a game but he almost don't work on it because they expect people to keep sending money either way, it is scammy, regardless if people choose to send the money on their own volition.
Why would you remain backing such a project? You should learn to pay attention to what you're doing.

Just because something isn't outright illegal or a proper scam scheme, doesn't mean it isn't scammy behaviour.
This is true. Then bitch about them being a scam, let everyone else know how little they update and what their required Patron amounts are, etc. But to claim you were scammed when you forgot you were paying them each month to not update... that's laughable.

Do i really have to grind $2000 for candy after grinding $1000 for Luna? The only mission that gives me a bit of money is the painter thing that earns $150 each run. I really dont want to do this any more...

Even thought I love this game, I hate grindy sandbox elements and this is no exception, but being Ren'Py it's really easy to go around it.
Edit the scripts, use the console or install URM and you can define the amount of money in the inventary.

Hopes isn't running a charity. These people aren't donating they are supporting. They didn't give money without expecting something back. They are supporting him because they like the game and wanted him to be able to work on the game full time. Which he is supposed to be doing. The success of the game allowed him to leave his job and work on the game. I highly doubt they supported this project so he could fuck off and not say a word.

I don't know Hopes, but when he's been on here he has seemed like a decent guy and willing to interact with his fan base, even the pirates. So I give him more benefit of the doubt than I would most developers. However this mess is entirely on him. It's not difficult to take 5 minutes in 3 months to make a post on patreon, discord, F95 or anywhere else to give those that are supporting you and the fans a heads up on what's going on with the game.
I can only donate so much a month to games I enjoy and are being worked on. So I donated for months thinking it was being worked on when it wasn't. I could have donated to someone else who has been working. Its frustrating that I wasnt supporting someone else for their work.

That's more of a "you" problem than a HopesGaming problem. You assumed, and made a decision based on that assumption. Work might very well have been done in that time, or not. I would support the project if I could afford to (just for loving the work so far), but I can't.

2 contracts per day will earn you circa $200 per day.
Nimble Fingers is probably the quickest daytime one to get through & that pays $150, then do Sleeping Bonans or The Bonanzo Meeting in the evening & you should make around $200 per day.
The two missions won't take much time, once you're done just sleep & repeat for 10 in-game days.
You should be able to earn 2k pretty quickly & easily, without much in the way of "grind".
