v0.8 - Poll results and update
The results are in! The tally has been tallied and we have a clear front runner in the hearts and minds of all you wonderful voters. The short answer is, the winner is... corruption. If you add the 'Corrupt Olivia' path and the 'Corrupt Heather' path, you get nearly 50% of the total votes. That's a pretty strong statement, and one I'll definitely keep in mind. Those two paths WILL be getting a good deal of new content in v0.8. I might actually be able to conclude them both, which is pretty exciting.
Now, it's been a bit of time since I last let everyone know about v0.8's development. Progress is coming along smoothly. I've finished the new path, the 'early single' path, for those that ditch Susan early in the game. There's a set of plot and content for those who become single while presenting masculine early in the game, and then there's a somewhat separate, interesting bit of plot for those who are single while embracing femininity. And yes, the masculine single bit evolves into the feminine single bit as you progress in your femininity; you never have to choose one over the other.
The single path revolves around what a single person does on a lonely Friday night. The answer, in the case of the Main Character, is to mess around with dating apps and flirt with a whole variety of new characters. It's been a lot of fun to code a semi-realistic 'swipe marathon' for the player to indulge in. Lots of freedom in this route. Swipe left, miss a whole scene. Maybe try it out next time. It's up to you!
I also added something that actually wasn't in the cards for v0.8 but felt right so I went ahead and did it: a brand new ending!!! This is not a 'typical ending' like when you fail to pay off the mob on a given Monday night. This feels a bit more like the special ending 'The Prodigal Son,' in that you have to make a specific decision (or set of decisions) to get it. I won't reveal anything more than that (besides the obvious fact that it's accessed through the new 'Single Path'). Good luck finding it! It's a pretty sweet ending.
Now that the single path is wrapped up, February is focused on adding new content to the post-masquerade world. Dates for all the variations of lovers. The next stage of the main plot with the mob, Nazarov, and Katie as you fight to save your dad. Obviously, as mentioned above, new scenes with Olivia and with Heather on their respective corruption routes. And the start of something long-awaited since the game's creation.
More updates to come. My plan is a late March release - we'll see how it goes.
Thank you all for your continued support. The Good Son has been (and continues to be) a blast to develop! It's a creative, erotic romp through porn tropes, sexual misadventure, and gender madness. I like to think it also has just a little bit of heart, too. Just a touch. Only a few more updates left, and then it will be complete.
Now, it's Saturday and I've got time to spare. Off I go to Twine!
