Thanks for the bug report. If you wait until your first 'greet' event before accessing the friend screen, the bug can be avoided. We have found the issue and will include the fix in the next update.

The lab is in the cottage under the study. Look for the hole in the right corner of the study.

I'm in the study in the cottage, and can't find the hole to click on. did I fuck up by upgrading the study all the way before finding this hole?
May I ask where is the Cottage?
Is the Cottage in the university or highschool?

The cottage is James' House which is unlocked after you accept the 'deal' from the Motherhood. It is located just below the high school.

Upgrading the cottage shouldn't make any difference to the lab entrance. There should be a hole in the floor next to the wall below the window on the right. if you cannot see the hole and the 'get help' is telling you to check the lab, you can try hitting 'shift o' and entering:

Right now get help is just saying 'something will happen soon.' I've accepted the motherhood's proposition, been told I could do private lessons with the teachers (UNDER CONSTRUCTION) and spoken to the records lady upstairs in city hall. It's been several days, so there doesn't feel like anything else for me to do except find this lab, since the 'something will happen soon' message hasn't left in like a week.
I've seen the crech and the marina too, if that matters at all.
like am I blind? I seriously cannot find any hole here, despite catgirl saying there's something in this room.

I was going to tell you that only specific characters had age renders and that back when I tested it (5.9a) only 1 or 2 of them had loli renders(One of which was the furry catgirl) with about half or so having "mid teen" looking renders. However, dev claims they removed all that content from the public version with this update, so it doesn't matter anymore.

After the 'catgirl' saying there's a door, you should have an event with Tareen at 3pm in the school store and then with Ursula, which unlocks the lab. If the events are not firing, it seems that the event sequences are out of order. to fix, you need to press 'shift o' and enter:
