What do you guys think about lore in games?

Should it be a priority, or is it better to have it in the background, as something you can choose to go deeper into.

So you get that feeling; Came for the sauce, but stayed for the gameplay and lore.
I find ImpG's story and lore to be the optimal amount. An additional lorebook with unlockable articles of writefaggory about the world would've fit here as well. In a larger game, I can imagine a more in depth conspiracy story with various countries and factions at play, but ImpG is so small that I was satisfied with just this sort of simple story with a few twists. I enjoyed that the characters and the small scale scenario were focused on. Definitely not here for the story but I was surprised it was competent.

For non porn game, yeah it's always a positive. If a game is good, having an interesting setting with great lore is always a huge bonus. Plus lore generally make a game feel "soulfull" and made with passion.

But in terms of H-Games. I guess it's good, but probably should be optional, and only there if you know your gameplay is fun even without the naked girls. Also do you refer to story as lore? In the context of a porn game, like backstory for a character? I find it's a delicate balance, and also depends on players mood. Sometimes you just want some naked chick in the fetish situation you are interested in at that moment and don't care for the rest, fast skip through all dialog. But other times it's hotter if you know a bit about the girl first, get a taste of her personality, and the writing just good enough to make her seem like she could be a real girl you know, and also important that she's got clothes on during this intro part and then she strips later. Then it's got that feeling that you're seeing a girl you know get naked. It's good to have this, but not too much. I've played some VN's on this site that didn't even feel like a porn VN they had so much drama and character development, by the time they got to the nude scene, it felt like I was just watching a VN version of a normal drama movie that has a decent sex scene at one point in the movie. I think some of the VN's need to cut to the chase a bit more. Build up is good but too much is bad.

I think ImpG was pretty good with it's build up. It was maybe slightly too long before you unlocked naked girls, and the first level is slow. But it had other things in the meantime. I've been thinking a lot, how long is the right time to wait before unlocking nudity? And can that time be extended if there are other unlocks in between.

I was thinking I'd be great to be able have more arrest options later: like, the warrant lists a couple vague characteristics, and you can choose to arrest someone who fits part of the description or not. One person per day. And then you get to interrogate them to get them to confess or not.

Also a big fan of placating the guards by sending non-imperials stripped their way: more interaction with the guards: i.e. hidden objectives of sending them X girls with Y coloured hair or something like that etc.
The idea of arresting someone on vague characteristics is a cool one. Id be cool to have to have them show little tells like nervousness, fidgeting, maybe wanting the search to finish quickly, etc. On the other hand, having an experienced criminal

Personally I think the 3 things that make a game great are a good story, good gameplay, and a good ending (used to also include good boss fights but thats not always applicable). As a background thing it could potentially get more people to discuss the game or lore hunt it (as like with limbo, fnaf, little nightmares, etc.) I technically prefer the latter but some games really dont need a deep or complex story if the gameplay loop is enjoyable (as with ImpG obviously).

PS: As i'm writing this another idea came into my head. As Procrastinus has made this an obvious no brainer, a game that has modding potential can make it infinitely more enjoyable. How easy modding is im not sure as im too lazy to actually look into it, but as games like skyrim, FnF, and Doom will tell ya, it just makes a great game better.

I'm glad others are picking up the slack, I announced my intentions too early and then succumbed to the pitfalls of game design. Feature creep and trying to implement a lot of what Anarking and PaganWarlord suggested earlier was stuff I was trying to do. But turns out that reactivity is really hard to program. ImpG seems simple from playing it but I have to respect Tengsten for getting as far as he did. I hired a freelance programmer for about 3 weeks but he couldn't solve the problem of having NPC's be really reactive to what you do (needed for maximum ENF during interrogation), and neither could my friend who was programming my game part time while at uni. So I didn't go ahead with commissioning much more than BG art and music before pausing development because of this programming roadblock.

So I don't want to keep people's hopes up. I'm not actively working on it anymore. For anything more complex than what ImpG already is, I'd need to get a professional programmer experienced in game dev to solve the issue, and they are more expensive than a part time freelancer. So I'm just saving my money with intent to resume development next year with a more experienced programmer, and also a full time artist because individual commissions by deviantart members would be more expensive for the amount of poses and outfits I want.

So Procrastinatus's and Shipfu's games will almost definitely be out before mine, and you might like their games better too.

I noticed a lot of you guys wishes for an enhanced ImpG include a lot of hardcore stuff, my game was really really focused around ENF and Softcore stuff, with a few other fetishes included like femdom and spanking. But not much hardcore. I was just going to make each girl have their own sex pose, but only 1 pose per unique NPC. So to you'd have to seduce each female NPC to max level to find your favorite sex pose, maybe the thick girl does anal, the sporty girl gives you a footjob, the tall girl is spread eagled etc. Most of the mechanics and art assets I had planned were based around ENF fetish stuff and the process of undressing the girls though, not sexual intercourse. Think more the ability to handcuff a girl naked to a post at the entrance near the line as punishment for having forged a passport, and the longer you leave her there, the more intense her reactions to that situation become. Like every 5 seconds of being handcuffed while naked in public she gains X amount of points for embarrassment, anger, but also possibly hornyness, exhibitionism and any other tag the randomizer gives that NPC, and when thresholds are met it changes her behavior. She might go from covering herself, screaming empty threats at the guards while red faced, to fetal position, hiding her face, or maybe she gets a mindbroken kinda horny and starts masturbating to the crowd. All the while your calling more applicants in, and every guy and girl you call in while you have a naked woman handcuffed to a post rubbing her clit at the door influences how those new applicants will react. And this is why it was so damn hard to program. The variables just went through the roof and my programmers told me the task was daunting.

Hopefully someday we can have a game like this.

Honestly your game sounds a lot more in-depth and cooler than what I thought of lol. I know youre not actively working on it but I did have some questions:

1. Were we restricted to only 1 person chained up or could we have up to a set limit?
2. You mentioned femdom so was your MC originally female or or could we pick?
3.Could other applicants or guards enjoy our "prisoners"?
4.How detailed was the touching supposed to be? Was it like ImpG where its just face, tits, ass, and genitals, or could we grab arms, legs, or dem thick girl thighs?
5. If there was a footjob scene, could there have a regular and chained up variation?

You might not have the answers as may not have reached some of the points in programming so its mainly me getting overexcited at your idea lol. Hope you are able to create the game you want in the future.

I purposefully didn't mention a lot of features I was planning because I didn't want to get people too hyped, especially in case it wasn't able to be achieved.

1. No I was planning on multiple punishment slots that could be unlocked. As a money sink you could save up and buy certain devices and bribe guards to allow extra punishments. Basically you'd unlock increasingly fetishistic and embarrassing punishments as the game went along. Tying up women naked in public outside was a late game unlock. IIRC I planned that mid game you'd be able to start handcuffing/tying up women in the interrogation room itself and having them stand in the back while the next NPC's come in. So it would be an awkward, embarrassing and possibly sexual situation for both, and I wanted them to be able to react to each other too, which proved super difficult for my programmers to figure out. This is why I got really excited when out of nowhere Tengsten updated ImpG so you can call in Olivea, Chrisia and Richard I thought he was going to implement something similar to what I was planning, but turned out to be bare bones as fuck.

2. Male MC. Reason is because my game is story heavy and the femdom aspects came in two forms, female guards could do some femdom stuff to male NPC's who pass through. And trying not to spoil my story because I had a cool plot planned out. But there were some femdom scenes with named story characters, that in some ways affected how your work day played out depending on your actions. Won't say anymore. Games on the backburner but not cancelled. Basically, if you're abusing your powers to embarrass innocent female NPC's too much, there might be some consequences hehe.

For any sex content you've got to get the girl horny and willing first (obviously not through the nicest means though), I really really want to avoid controversy and outrage culture shit, and the idea is already borderline enough as it is for a Steam release lol. For anyone who does want that content, I'm telling the programmers to document code well and make game to be as easy to mod as possible.

4. Hadn't made my mind up fully on this yet, because I wasn't sure if I could get the Live2D animation engine integrated or if I went for a static modular style or something else. But probably similar to ImpG but with more "touchboxes" because they also double for places they hide contraband. So yeah arms, legs, feet etc will likely be individual touch boxes, because someone could have pills hidden in their socks and you'd have to check there.

Trust me, you won't be disappointed in Procrastinatus's project if you're into hardcore fetish stuff. Him and I are specialization our games in different areas. And that allows me to fit in as many different types of sex poses and positions as possible while not having have 100k+ assets drawn so they work on every character (would be a dream to be on every character but I don't have EA games budget). So if there's interest I could have one of the NPC's, perhaps a more kinky one have her sex pose be tied up in shibari robes while giving you a foot job. It's just one frame (that's hopefully Live2D animated a bit) so really I could have them put on some handcuffs or something just for that fuck frame. I am prioritizing a high number of NPC's too, so I should be able to get a decent variety of sex poses in. But that is the extent of hardcore. So you'd just have to seduce each type of NPC to find your favorite sex position. I mean because it's a single frame, sometimes it could even just be a CG like with the Paula titjob scene. I like the thrashing and kicking, but that would require a lot of animation. The way I've been solving adding X, Y and Z feature is just making each character really unique in their poses. So each character can cater too a different fetish and tick a box. Worst case scenario, the poses are static like in ImpG so no thrashing. But if I can get Live2D or some similar animation style put in, there's no reason why some base NPC's tied up pose is just her hands bound, leaving her feet free to struggle. I'd been debating this myself already. Some girls could have their hands tied to different posts apart, so they have no way of covering themselves, yet other girls have a collar locked around their neck that's chained to the post. So they are fully bodily mobile but just have no way of leaving the premises and that allows them to squat and try to cover themselves. Art assets for this aren't drawn yet and won't be for a while, so nothings set in stone.

And yeah, I did imagine that after being tied up naked in public for a while, you could bring them back in to question them when they are feeling a bit more honest, or without the stuck up attitude they previously had. Maybe they even cry out trying to bargain with you, begging to fuck so they can be untied. The possibilities are so many.

Would be fun. Might require a 3D engine though, or some sort of scrolling down. But yeah having a girl perform lewd acts to you under the table while you deal with other applicants would be awesome. how do you make clothing mods?
In the game files, unpack the Picture.Wolf file with DXADecode and then just open whatever clothing asset you want in Paint.Net and edit them. Hope you make some good clothing mods.
