I am skeptical about 3D models, especially in smaller projects, simply because without adequate quality, variety, animations and overall attention to details it can very fast become something that is more of a hindrance even if core game play is somewhat decent.

For example while it does have 3D models and interaction elements it gets old real quick (in this case it is also due to poor game mechanics, but still)

Since I paused my game in the meantime, I've been rethinking a lot of things and learning from the issues I had. I am halfway considering 3D. Or at least some sort of hybrid. A major issues is screen space, and with 2D you can only really scroll, but 3D always allows panning which would allow for a lot better feeling design.

3D women would be hot but really expensive and 2D obviously has it's own charm.

What is your opinion on basically HD sprites? 2D animated girls but the level is actually polygonal and you can pan the camera a bit. Like how Fallout Shelter looks.
Not a big fan 3D games, but anything goes in the world of porn.

As someone who does 3D commissions and worked on some that will be used on games it should be important to note if doing things in 3d will actually solve SPECIFIC problems in what you're trying to achieve in the game and if it's worth it considering the cost when you're an indie. Doing things in 3D is an investment and is something that will save you money if for long term.

For HD sprites on a 3D environment I think it works well if it is part of the gameplay or just want some depth in your environment. If you need things animated for your characters you'll still need it in 2D.

Hmm... cant really say if I'd like panning or not since it seems like sth I'd barely use after the first few times, but if it can be implemented without much issue go for it. HD sprites though are a definite yes.

Thanks for feedback everyone.

I think I am going to stick to 2D characters, but with a semi 3D background. I had some 2D backgrounds drawn up and it just doesn't look right at times because of perspective issues when needing to look around via scrolling. So I guess I am going 2.5D as well, or 2D Hybrid. I'm not sure if I want to go full polygonal, or just certain objects, then have lots of 2D layers that scroll which each other properly.

Since I am going to get this redone, I may as well post some of the art now. As I said before I started with the boring stuff first before getting the nude girls drawn up.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

I already had some other layers but they didn't scroll, they were static overlays. Like there are other image assets that are layered over the blank pink areas above and below the building that had a lot of UI stuff drawn into them, as well as some objects like the posts you tie girls too where separate overlays, and of course NPC art of people standing around in the BG that would react to things going on. But this layer was the main atmosphere layer, but the problem is the central interrogation room has perceptive issues when zoomed into full screen and scrolling left and right.

What is your guys opinion of having the interrogation room be 3D polygonal, as well as certain closer up objects, but then the rest is still 2D in the distance but split into many more layers, so that scrolling and panning doesn't cause a bunch of perspective issues. To do 3D polygonal for all the plants outside they'd look terrible without a decent budget.

As I said I'm going for ENF as a major theme (in this first level, it's a bit chilly so girls definitely don't want to be handcuffed naked outside in the snow), so I have to both figure out how the game and camera works both in the interrogation part of the game that is similar to ImpG (I want full body views if people want them, but also ability to zoom in/out, pan and scroll to different parts of the girl), but also in the outside of the interrogation parts of the game which is where a lot of the new ENF mechanics will play out. I always liked how if you sent out a person nude in ImpG sometimes the sprites outside would get an exclamation or loveheart reaction, so I want to expand the outside way more and make it interactable to the player, basically like a second room. BTW later levels are going to be in more urban sci fi areas where tons and tons of people will witness girls being tied up nude in public. But I wanted at least one rural level as a starter.

Everytime the dev of IMGK say he's sorry because he have to delay his lastest update, I come here to see how Mandalore and Procastinatus are doing. At least we have those two doing God's work here.
Three projects on the horizon and it's only april, life's good.

I am seriously amazed by how good this looks man. 2.5D is some magic tier tech, I would swear this was some polygonal model if not told otherwise. I am hyped as fuck to play this.
The only downside is the layering involved when coupled with modular characters. There are some parts that need a lot of babying, like the pussy rig I'm currently working on that I've simplified to 3 sprites and 5 control bones. If the design is correct it'll yield a puffiness slider and labia variations.

Is there a Walkthrough? I have the "Date with Hana" greyed out and it doesn't seem like I can do anything about it.
Been a while since I played it, but IIRC you'd need to beat the game, then meet her in stage 2/1 during work and have a chat (you can get another scene with her the same day), then go back to stage 1 and talk to her before you start working, and the date should happen on your next day off.
