I think you have to do the pool puzzle first, get the herbicide from the basement (melon key) and fill it into the pool pump. (the machine next to the pool, walk around it until you find the funnel on the machine)

the pool puzzle has never worked for me. After filling the herbicide into the pool pump nothing happened.
I am curious if it will work in the next update.

Could be it needs another component, like CVC or such. Not sure. I'll do a fresh playthrough+walkthrough when the next version comes around.

You need to have both items in hand. E.g Apple in left hand, bar in right hand.
Then press Q or E (to select hand) and then left click to activate the item. This should combine it with the other item and you got an apple with cross shaped protrusion. Use it at the pedestal with the fruit to get the peach key.
