I don't see how it could be. If you keep playing you'll notice there's multiple instances of this good/bad ending choice. I can remember 3 off the top of my head. With that in mind I'd guess each choice will have an impact and steer you one way but no individual choice will lock you into the bad ending or the good ending. That's just my guess though.
I've only ever picked the "bad ending" choices in my playthroughs and the sky hasn't fallen yet

True, it's some good shit, caught me off guard, it reminds me of Race of Life a lot. I thought that it'd feel too rushed to romance another woman after his wife and daughter died, man I felt his pain, when he almost got hit by a car I felt how he wanted to die because he no longer had a purpose in life.

I agree with you, though. What we've seen of her isn't someone who was entirely open with the love of her life. Their relationship was more than the secrets she kept in her notebooks, but I'm also pretty sure she wore the pants, even if the MC disagrees with that statement. He's shown us how easygoing he is, sometimes to a fault.

In light of that slanderous provocation I'll just say this:
If this game was "The Oregon Trail", the worst possible thing that could happen to the player wouldn't be starvation. It wouldn't be cholera or dysentery. It would be meeting Emily!
