Could just be a serious delay due to Life™ getting in the way. There's a deadly pandemic still doing the rounds and all, and the Patreon wasn't funded much, so the game is probably a low priority if something goes wrong. Some devs have sprung back to life after a year away - and bad communication is almost a given in the sex game industry.

The real salt in the wound is that the dev explicitly said early on that they aren't one of those devs that will abandon things or go on hiatus for months without letting their supporters know what's happening. Queue "So that was a fucking lie" meme.
