Well, I have my reasons to think that. Like I said, I'm not interested at all in the content. I study game development and others aspects of this industry.
Porn game, incest game or Call of duty. Same to me. In fact, I remember a "porn game" that was called Whore Masters if my memory serves me well, where you had a pleasure house to fill with women and make money. And the game was rich as a game. You could manage the girls, hire goons, kidnap girls, sends men or girls to explore dungeons, buy properties, upgrade your buildings, inventory etc... It was amazing as a game. I never cared about the porn. In fact, I would have loved it if it was less of a porn game and more of an RPG/management/business sim game.
So for me, all these visual novels you speak about are obsolete. Once a game like The Twist opens this level of graphics. Animations, style etc... All the other developers should reach this level or do more.
We can't allow steps back in game development. Only one direction, forward. It would be like making a car with square wheels after we invented round wheels. Why not triangle wheels after that? No. Once you invented round wheels, once you tasted a smooth driving style, you keep it. No steps back. Ever. The state of the art advanced that much, you can't lag behind.
Putting Visual Novels aside, as they're something that's their own thing and only loosely a game, porn games using real-time 3D graphics & rendering like a normal video game aren't new, and are still relatively niche. That's due in no small part to porn games being something that's been almost as much a taboo as some of the common genres/fetishes in the games here.
I think it should be standard from now on.
We can tolerate different types of engines, like Unreal or Unity like The Twist. I don't mind. But honestly, I don't see the point of visual novels anymore. The level of details could be better. But the main point is that they are easier to make for the developer. And this the problem. A digital work like these is in fact timeless. Like a video on youtube. If you take time to make a video on YT, you have to take A LOT of time to make that video. Because that video could be playing for eternity. So 2 hours video could be seen for millions of hours. So maybe you should put 2000 hours in it and make it a timeless video.
It's called respect for the viewers.
Anything else and you are in over-production mode. Making stuff to make stuff. That's corruption. The path of mediocrity.
The Twist isn't some ground breaking advent in porn games though. There's been plenty before it, mostly from Japan but still a few other western ones too, and all are significantly better made, and more visually appealing. They were also made by professionals.
Of course not. But it was made by a single developer if I understand correctly. We could compare it to AAA games too, you know.
And these Jap games are mostly done by local studios. And they have no real character. Many are 2D dating sim games etc... Terrible value and boring. Go the gym, grind your stamina... And the characters are typical losers in my book. I'm not into Jap culture.
In fact, I have more respect for the perverted stuff we can find in this forum. Looks more like people who need more to be satisfied.
This game's made in Unity.
There are other porn games on these forums made using Unity, in 3D, and with animations and higher quality visuals. There are also ones made using Unreal Engine too.
Can you name a few? I didn't try everything. For now, The Twist is top class. I didn't see anything getting even close to it.
As for your dislike of RPGMaker... Guessing you're not big on old school RPGs or even older JRPGs.
Well, I'm more of Baldur's Gate kind of RPG. I was a kid when it was out and enjoyed it a lot.
And I like old school RPGs, but I'm not going to make an "RPG" with the limitations we had back in the day and call it old school. I would just call it... Lazy.
For me, old school is the values we had back then. Not the tools we had back then. Making an ugly game in 16 colors isn't old school. It's just lazy... Why play chess when you can play total war games. You think they had Shogun total war in Mesopotamia 516156156years ago and decided to play chess to teach the basics of strategy and warfare? They didn't had the tech. We have the tech. Not using it is laziness, nothing else.
They made strategy games back then to learn to learn how to use their brains, to train kings etc... That's the old-school aspect. Not the technology they used.
Just an example. Of course. And I understood the lack of skills and lack of resources. If I was an expert coder or a rich person capable of hiring the people with the right skills, I would be making games non-stop.
I'm not.
You're speaking of a topic that's purely subjective, but even The Twist requires you to actually read things, and I'm not just talking about the mandatory walkthrough (more on that later), but that's not something it should be lauded for just because you want a quick fap. Hell, this game is absolutely not one that gets to the "interesting content" aka porn quickly. Go to any porn-tube site and you'll get "interesting content" far faster than any of these games.
Yes, yes. Absolutely. I have a theory on that.
I believe that the grindy and verbose aspect at the start, I don't know if it was a conscious aim of the game designer or not, give weight to the characters. Like those oldschool movies (like Heat) that took a long time to introduce the characters. To create a rapport with the viewers.
It's actually genius.
But once that ticket price is paid, once the player tried to play, established that rapport with the characters, understood the relations, did the missions, got stuck, found the solution in the walkthrough, saw the scenes, did the job... He should be allowed to see them again. Don't you think? Like the scenes unlock system/gallery system.
The reason many of the devs spend time and effort on what they're writing, is because they're making a game that also has a story with characters. Mostly they're pretty shallow characters, but there are plenty where they've put effort into making characters and crafting a story and plenty of good porn scenes.
I don't care much about the devs on these aspects. Priority to the players.
Some want to play, some want a quick fap like you said, some want to read, some want to laugh at ridiculous situations, some want to see all the secrets in the game...
Let's have some respect and give them different playstyles. Like difficulties in games. Deus Ex had an easy a realistic mode. Some like to read, others hate it...
We can accommodate both. It's not that hard.
In my job, I write reports. And I make a short version, and a detailed version. And then I add a super detailed and sourced version. Works very well.
There's a difference between "mistakes were made" and "this game's design is fundamentally flawed". The latter is completely different from something needing optimised, and absolutely needs to be done from scratch again, to be made in a way that doesn't continually bog down systems with good hardware, let alone middle and low-end systems.
I'm not qualified to judge. Truth be told. I have no idea who the game was made.
But from my limited understanding, the picture showed (with all the characters mixed in one room) is for me the proof that they made the room, the characters. Then used the same room, different set of characters in another scene. Something got mixed up and it gave that result.
If they made each time a new location, new characters, the game would be even heavier.
Like I said, I believe it was one person behind the whole project. Can't have all the skills.
Your statement is proof that you don't know what you're talking about. There's no organic growth shown at all.
It's proof that this has been horribly made, and that KST has shown no interest in actually improving his own skillset as a game designer - that would be actual organic growth, not mashing everything together in the same place and letting a percentage chance calculated by the game decide which one isn't made invisible.
Go look at cities in the USA and old cities in Europe. You will see that's what we call organic growth. You see that it was made with roads for carts pulled by bulls, then it evolved from there with streets too narrow for speeding cars. Why? Because it was an old city that had no fast cars. In the USA, they had room to start from scratch.
But I get what you mean.
Yes, you want quick access to fap material. That's basically what your wrote comes to, which is laughable when you're saying such things about this game. It is not quick to get to its "interesting content" at all, which makes me question how much you've actually played.
I don't know, mate. I'm not into the content.
Just looking for ideas. And The Twist got 3D graphics I didn't find in other games.
Then you've barely seen anything when it comes to 3D porn games, but then you're clearly not interested in games, so just download the animations/comics that are shared here instead.
Care to give some pointers? I'm still exploring.
Going back to the mandatory walkthrough now...
The fact that it's mandatory, (try playing without it or asking questions when you're stuck) combined with the undeniably lazy way that KST has continued to develop this game with an over abundance of "random" events to the point that he even had to change one piece of content to become a guaranteed trigger, only shows that you clearly have not explored much at all of either the games available here, or elsewhere.
Indeed. I have a lot of things I don't like in the game. But that's the content again. I think that KST is more into graphics than game design when it comes to playability. And it's not that bad, because we actually have a walkthrough. In fact, the first time I spotted this game, it had a walkthrough with it.
But I like some aspects in the game, like the ability to press escape to move though text. That's awesome. Not like others games where you have to click a thousand times just to move through the intro. I need a softer mouse or something... Hurts my fingers. Seriously. I deleted many for that. I'm not even sure I'm interested in the game and they ask for the commitment from the get go. let me see the game and decide if I want to read all of this or not.
Sorry for the long text. I just wanted to share some opinions.
