Been playing this game since (almost) the beginning and never had a problem with saves (I even moved them from a PC to another).
My tips: follow the walkthrough step by step and wait for at least a beta v2-v3 for each release (even better if you can wait for the final version)
In all fairness to @ikaruga, he specified using Cheat Engine to examine variables and triggers, and errors relating to progress issues. Not to cheat with.

I only cheat to dump scenes and raise lube / money / condom. But to raise affinity too (using game cheat menu with C+H combo in hallway)
I'm not messing with states or anything, because i know too much how game mechanics can be messy
As i said, it's my personnal impression of the game, and i won't do it from scratch with all the grinding just to hope nog bug.
Doesnt matter what cheat you use. It can literally break flag sets and scenes before you know it. Most people suffer from this, best way to use cheats is just money and regaining relationship points if you actually manage to lose some.
I dont care how you wanna play it out but you can literally download someone's save from previous versions. Or just complete the game in earlier version save it somewhere and return to game after some time. It is no brainer really.
I think you're missing the point of what he was saying.
Some bugs are caused by not moderating the rate at which you progress Jason's stats with the different women, i.e. focusing on one or two at the expense of everything else.
It wasn't a problem with earlier releases, but as some things have now become dependant on both time and relationship scores, the potential for an adverse effect (AKA a bug/glitch) that effects an event/other progression increases due to how they're coded.

You are the one missing point here. That 3some pool so called bugs has been all over the forums since people are using C+H cheats and missing flags and confusing in game scripts. Dude already stated that he is using C+H relationship cheats.
For example; if you push certain char's relationship points above a flag action(lets say janice joining 3some at 8-10pm julia's room) before actually completing certain flags(like talking to janice/julia about it or breaking up julia from rick or triggering first julia mom scene in julia's bedroom) you can cause bugs BECAUSE of using cheats mate.
Game has too many tangled up relationship statuses and sometimes it is hard to follow up what's what and what's next. If you follow a simple pattern rather than using cheats or focusing on grinding you will be always fine. That's why i have never encounter these so called ''bugs''. There are also unity engine ram related script freeze bugs but that's mainly because PCs which have 8gb ram or less may not be able to handle that amount of work load(gee thanks unity engine).
Problem is people are rushing stuff cause they wanna watch some lewd pixels and there is no proper journal(i know there is one but it is not good enough) feature implemented yet.
On the side note if someone is generous enough to write better walkthrough and clear up this confusion we would have less bug reports and use search function posts.
Skaldy, you know, that I know, that is most often the cause.
However, there are still instances where progression "breaks" due to progressing too much/too far with one character, even when not using any cheats.
As it is, there is an issue with Julia's outfit score where a game from several versions ago that had her outfit score "maxed", breaks the newly added outfits and their ties to the outfit score system for Julia, and that most certainly is not to do with cheating.

What you are saying is mostly impossible. Progressing too much i mean. If you are using older save, sure but we all know using older saves also cause bugs.
Look problem here is not fresh game. With each new version i always run a new game to see if there are bugs. Never ever bugs occured on my case(of course this is for final version). So each time KsT posts a new version, he also has to do extra programming/scripting to adjust new stuff for your older save games. Which leads to; either longer production for each version or less content for each version.
Or people can man up, wait for couple of updates. Or even better; each new update takes roughly 18 hours of play time for me.
We get one update each month, average month days are 30, 30x24 hours for you to complete each version.
