I agree with all that completely. There are several VN's and games out there with stories I can more or less relate to, having been through a lot of similar times in my life, and playing these stories more often than not makes me feel a certain type of way, and also if the characters are written well, I'll feel a certain type of way about them too, and all this helps me connect with the big picture, and isn't that the whole point? I think a good story manages to do just that and should do just that. And even though these are adult games and probably majority of the people are here because of that, the sexual content is still but only secondary thing to me, I primarily play these because of the stories, and in example
@Zee95 here has managed to make a good one. I totally understood and even felt what the MC was going through, having been there myself, more times than I'd like to admit, haha, and it was indeed depressing, basically reliving my own past experiences while being there as the MC is struggling with his own loss and pain.
It's the exact same thing with Dual Family, that story (apart from the incest of course) hits home pretty hard, I'm also from a broken home, as are millions of other people, every day there is someone out there going through it, so it is in that matter a rather realistic story, depressing story at that.
Depraved Awakening is one of my all-time favorites, the entire story is so beautifully structured and written, with great variety depending on your own choices. It's an absolutely awesome noir crime thriller with lots of drama with several absolutely amazing characters, and I absolutely understand the dynamics between MC and Carli and I find their love and relationship a beautiful thing, in the middle of all the darkness, violence, uncertainty, constant threat and death around them, they found each other, they found love in each other in the middle of all that, a shimmer of hope (that's of course if one chose to play the Carli route, haha). But the story definitely makes me feel all kinds of things, from good to bad, which again is something a good story does
I also agree that devs really should stick to their own vision, stay true to themselves, especially because you can NEVER please everybody, but if you're pleased and happy with your own work and take pride in it, others will see that and will respect and appreciate the work and effort. So many devs unfortunately let their supporters dictate the course of their game/story, one big example of that is V3X, that guy had a tremendous amount of potential, really talented, but sadly we all know what happened there, which is a damn shame. :/
