I'll try to answer both your comments at once, but it's a bit technical if we're talking about ThornSin's graphics/filesystem.
As for these textures, it's a very odd sub-system which works kinda like a "texture injector". I tried that in 0.58 and it seem to work on my end, but it's very limited and can break easily.
I don't see much use in it personally, because I'd like to be able to edit game's data directly. The thing with TS's newer builds: it gets progressively more and more closed to modding and exploring assets/scenes. For example, current Unity Explorer (and it's derivatives) stopped showing Scene Selector, which is very odd and sucks for playtesting (which I used a lot for 0.45 edits).
Like I said before, game's internal file structure changes nearly every build, art-style changes from scene to scene, sudden change in character design which only reflects menu but she looks different in scenes... why is that?
On top of that, they had to rebuild most animations for newer Spine version which took A LOT of time and effort. I can tell because I work with it too, but their skeleton structure is quite complicated. Wouldn't want to port it between unsupported versions myself.
