Seems lately Don’s MO to Toxic Attraction is to have Lester on the cusp of wooing Sarah for several chapters and then at the last minute Dan comes in to save the day and pours ice water on the affair. We are due for another cooling off period. I hope this doesn’t happen in chapter 25.

You think that Lester is wooing Sarah, just curious? I don't read it that way at all. I think Lester is the kid that got picked on all thru school, his first job(s) was under a ball busting boss. He spent his time learning to code and looking at porn and then one day snapped and started planning how to get revenge on anyone that wronged him. With his hacking skills he started filing away blackmail material and building his power base, corrupting new female targets, and each victory made him feel more powerful and addicted to the challenge. To the point now where he uses it to get his fix. It's not about the sex, it's about the power and control that's what he feeds on, the sex is just a happy by product for him.

Having said that is it possible that Sarah has affected a change in him, sure and that might be where this is leading but DS says this is a dark story so I just don't see it going the route of a romantic relationship. But who knows where it will end up at this stage.

Lol I just realized we don't have any idea how much time has passed. You'd think it was a months long seduction but considering how easy Sarah has become a generic slut it might as well have been 2 weeks.

Ch 1 started with her visiting once every three weeks, so by that measurement and 24 chapters you'd have to say 9 months give or take have passed - as some chapters are the next day or a series of days in-between, etc.

Sarah comes just feels weak and pathetic now. Not the strong woman, wife and mother that the story began with.

I agree that I liked chapters 16 and 19, where she stood up to Lester and told him how things were going to be. There has been some sprinkling of it throughout the chapters, but nothing as dramatic as the mentioned chapters. I think that's what's been missing, a power struggle between the two. Not sure how you show that and show her being corrupted/falling from grace at the same time though.

I always think of this horrid analogy from grade school: you cannot throw live frogs in a pot of boiling water because they sense danger and will jump right out. You will need to slowly turn up the heat and lull them in a false sense of calm. And before they know it’s too late to get out of the pot. Lester s wooing is by slowly turning up the danger and thrill factor with Sarah until it’s too late and she is consumed by desire and wanton lust.

I do this jokingly as we are near Christmas. I can vaguely see some similar parallels between Lester and the Grinch. Both were bitter and alone in seclusion. One with his lap dog overlooking Whoville and the other one in Chicago with Ned. They both possessed a heart two sizes too small and had an obsess to ruin something for another. One wanted to ruin Christmas to the town of Whoville and the other one wanted to ruin the sanctity of marriage. But unlike Cindy Lou Who who‘s sweetness and innocence sparking a change in the Grinch I don’t see Sarah who possessed the same characteristics will make a difference on Lester. Quite the opposite will eventually happen and Sarah will become a sexual deviant like him or worse.

Sure divorces happen all the time as husband and wife grow apart and lack spark they once had. But the notion of a mother/woman leaving and denying her love for the sake of another lover/family I thought would be unfathomable . However with what I’m seeing lately through social media, I definitely will retract my thought and I can see a scenario where by Don could have Sarah simply leave her family and past behind. She can chalk it up to undergoing a “mid-life crisis”. Only later to regret her hasty decision after she is visibly pregnant with second or third illegitimate child and covered in slutty tattoos and piercings. She will make an appearance to ask Dan and their kids forgiveness on some sleazy Chicago talk show.

Don’s writing in the early part of Toxic Attraction was very cerebral. The reader was drawn in and had opportunities to vividly imagine possible scenarios Lester could plot for Sarah and Dan. Whether the next chapter went as you hoped or the completely different direction, Don had the ability to make the reader get emotional involved with the characters. You could see the signs of a shift beginning in chapter 12. There Don relayed how eager he was to write this chapter since he first started this story in 2021. Since that chapter the progress of Sarah and Lester becoming a couple went from Niagara Falls to dripping faucet. there were plenty of threads trying to develop wild plot scenarios, but as the chapters mounted little was left to imagine. Now we know Don will focused heavily on the degradation of Sarah and sex scenes. The reader was left grasping at straws on whatever little nugget Don may have tossed. I’m hoping nearing the end of the story we see more meat and potatoes than appetizers.
I am glad to be around people in this forum who appreciate and want to read a good story not just the typical quick jerk wham bam slut story you see.

Personally I think it's more complicated than that. I think originally Ch14 was plotted out as the ending for this story. What better way to achieve the ultimate taboo but to breed another man's wife, or as written, the couple talks realizes that they were playing a dangerous game and decided to put it behind them. However I think DS realized around Ch8 he had an opportunity here (whether for monetary reasons or bc he knew he had the audience for the material) to expand the story. Hence why you see the boiling kettle in Ch14 and then the release and a new boil starting until we've gotten to Ch24 which is another boiling point bc hotel/jail situation has to resolve in progress of some significance - there's no way not too without it becoming comical if the couple just shucks it off as oh that's just Lester being Lester.

I do have to give DS credit this is a complicated story format, weaving three different storylines that tangle and bounce off each other and still move it forward must be a challenge. I think where it drags the most is the fluff he writes about the Lincoln Group and the corporate espionage. Nothing wrong with establishing background details, but it's excessive and could be used more effectively elsewhere (see below).

Lester's storyline is about ntr, control and corruption. Which I think has been handled well but could use some more about his personal history to add depth to his character. My one area of improvement would be in his awareness of hygiene. We all know he's the despicable beast with no life or regard for others and that was fine in the early chapters and that's the allure for Sarah. However and I don't want to be dismissive of anyone else's kink but I find it hard to believe that Sarah would continually put up with making out with Lester's trash can mouth. Dude runs a criminal enterprise but doesn't have enough self awareness to use a toothbrush. I don't find it hot or sexy and it just takes me right out of it when it gets described.

Sarah's storyline is about loss of innocence and an awakening to her sexual power. Vanilla housewife who is slowly being liberated from past values and embracing her darker desires. Again handled pretty well, my only complaint would be her sex dialogue "Don't. Stop. [insert name]. I'm so close." has become repetitive. I think her best scenes are when she is having to admit hard truths to Dan that she is enjoying these dark desires.

Dan's storyline is the most complicated (as written). I think Dan's character sees it as a vixen/stag situation at least initially, but is written as an angsty passive aggressive cuck. I'm not sure if DS knows what he wants for Dan's character bc there's been so little change. Sure Dan lashes out at times (passive aggressive), but at best he's been the weakest of the three both as a character and it's growth. This is where DS could use some of the TLG/espionage stuff to write one or two paragraphs so that we get context and background but more specifically it should be used to show Dan's struggle and growth with his inner demons and desires. I'll read Dan's arcs the first time to see if there are any nuggets, but pretty much treat him as a prop and gloss over the parts in subsequent readings.

LOL can't explain why but even from Ch1 Lester just screams Jack Black to me, regardless of the descriptions I can't see him any other way now.

I think that's essentially a guarantee. He's already selling it chapter by chapter for people that don't use Patreon. Although as bluepixie mentions it will be extremely long. It's over 400k words now, or about a third of In Search of Lost Time.
