Try following what I said in this post.
If it still won't work then can you give me a screenshot of both the translated game and the original game folder? To see the difference between the two.
(drag 'Data.wolf' file on 'arc_conv.exe')
OR
'touhouSE.exe'
You must be registered to see the links
[located on top 2008/10/28, download button on far right] (drag 'Data.wolf' file on 'touhouSE.exe')
-Place the extracted 'data' folder inside the game's folder where Game.exe is located.
2-Copy 'data' folder from the translation (containing only 'BasicData' + 'MapData' in this case) and 'Game.exe' (from the latest Wolf RPG Editor) inside the game's folder, overwrite when asked.
(make sure to rename Data.wolf to like Datax.wolf or something or place it anywhere else outside the game's folder)
3-There, you successfully applied the translation patch. Now enjoy the game.
there a version 1.22 ???

have you change your region to japanese? the game cannot read the map because the map data is in japanese you need to change region to japanese.
Control panel>Clock and Region>Region>Administrative>Language for non-Unicode program change to japanese(japan)
Haha, it took me way too long to figure this one out myself. I had to read the book in the library to figure some things out.
A little tip for the future:
-With rubies you can level your companions right away. Be sure to do so as much as possible.
-Make sure to grind a lot until the enemies are mostly one-shotted. (Or cheat engine some rubies)
-Go to the LEFT side of the sanctuary first. The one with the big square hole in the ground. If you go right far enough you'll fight a rat boss while being level 1 that can basically one shot you if you get hit. (Which is what happened to me) (Added an image showing which direction)
-You'll be able to level your character once you beat the boss on the left side (The red guy.). He's pretty easy if you've been leveling your party members. After you beat him, you'll be taken back to the house then see a cutscene. Afterwards talk to Alma and you can now finally level your character.
-Hold down C in order to sprint. Go fast!
