MC isn't searching for a girl though... not entirely sure where you picked that up, unless you are reffering to that one nightmare which I need to update though. The soul thing is compliated. And yes Tomas is fairly recent mage as he wasn't discovered until he got almost killed at the Battle for Pale Reach (which is a region and a city, ruined city now).is that girl the mc is searching for maybe nisha ?
trapped (soul) somehow in there ?

he got magic and nisha after this battle no ?
would explain that scene with the arrow burning at the gladeling ,imo
(i am at the point after he got shot at izumis , so not that far atm)
As for Nisha, she was given to him when he was born. Just that she was literally the otherside of the world at the time, relatively speaking. All familiars are assigned at birth since mages are mages the moment they are born. Just that there are people who don't know they are mages because no one has discovered them. And 99% of the people can't use magic without training and learning the spells.
As for the arrow. There is an explalation to it later but it isn't exactly that big of a spoiler. It was an incatation for protection of sorts, aka spell. Just themed to specific god, who may or may not give a damn about them. But for mages it works like ordinary spell since they can empower it themselves and not be at the mercy of the gods. But doing so they reinforce the belief in a god to anyone whos is watching so... kind of win/win?
Eh probably not, not that it is actually relevant at that stage anyway there are plenty of points to go over the required threshold. Forgot why added the variable though since it isn't in my records
