Because she is not a Love Interest. Which is the super obvious reason and you should know it.

While there have certainly been plenty of plans for this game that have changed over the years I can confidently assure you that this point still stands.
Will she could have been. I would understand if she were fat and ugly... Ain't she hot, though and pretty, though? MC should want to smash her, too.
People like you are the reason why other Devs never give somewhat attractive female characters as girlfriends to other male characters.
And this discussion was held multiple times.Melena was and will not be a Love Interest. Her only purpose is to give Leo a reason to not pester MC during school hours so that MC can do his shenanigans with the actual LIs. Which are 12 in total (huge number) and which are all more attractive, more likeable and with more depth than Melena.

From what I have seen and heard, most(at least a large group of number) of chinese player don't like this game, because it contains the content of "送女", which is a toxic point in chinese monopoly harem novel or game that the mc willingly to be cuckold.
The chinese word "送女" mean the mc willingly giving the girl who are interested in mc(no matter she is interested in mc's money, charm, power, etc) to another male character. The girl's type is not limited in main Li, side Li or even npc, as long as the girl have a more detail description in the story or maybe some chemistry between her and mc will fulfill the type label. Normally the mc who are doing this will describe their action as for the greater goods, help the buddy or using this to fulfill their goal.
So in this game, mc's pushing melena towards leon action in chinese's eyes is considered as "送女", even mc is not interested in melena, and that make this game have a quite negative rating in the chinese AVN clique, even many saying the story telling are quite emotional and the word's full of passion.

Like, all the girls are attractive dude, no reason to bloat the story with more and more characters, but they might get a bonus render or something if they're popular enough

To be fair it's not just "other character has attractive girlfriend", it's an attractive girl that is into the MC, which is a bit different from another character having a girlfriend who is only into him. I'm not saying it's wrong to do, but I can understand why some people are disappointed, especially if they're into the whole "breaking the bratty girl" thing. And wasn't there actually something about Leo's mother being a big fat girl? Am I remembering that right? I don't get why some people get so hung up on melena. She's not nearly as attractive as any of the LIs and her personality sucks. And it doesn't even suck in a fun way. If she were bratty and arrogant, then you'd have the whole "breaking the brat"-appeal. If she were tsundere, there would be the fun of breaking through her shell.
But she's neither, she's just a gold digger. And there's no further depth beyond that. There's no hint of there being a decent person hiding under there. She isn't doing it out of economic anxiety, her family is rich. She's just a gold digger for the sake of it. She's into the mc right now because he is popular and for nothing else.
It's just bitch all the way down.

Her purpose is to get her away from the MC, she's playing that purpose. It'll make more sense if they were upset with the MC not getting with the two girls from towards the beginning who the MC randomly shut down or the ones who were interested in whether or not he really is hung down there.
Though one correction, from what I remember she isn't a gold digger just a slut. She just likes to be with popular guys. In the former life, her and Stephine were actually rivals who tried to outdo each other on who could sleep with more guys...iirc, haven't played this in a long while.

IMO the good thing about a Harem is that the male owner of the Harem can decide who to accept in the Harem and not just take any semi-attractive female who wants to participate in it.
And as already said, Melena is below all LIs in the game.
No, she's a gold digger. She's also a slut, but her dialogue hints several times in no uncertain terms at her being a gold digger. Such as her suddenly developing interest in leo once he mentions that he might inherit a lot of money from his dad.

Damm that's interesting, it's a like a weird specifric version of NTR, no wonder why so many people dislike it on the chinese side, reminds me of how people on the west may praise some anime but in Japan had a mild reception at best beacuse we're different people. Besides been blonde I don't even remember any dialogue of that girl when theres so many better ones, anyway thanks for the insight of that side of the community!
