I just got to the Poppy introduction scene and I fully agree with the two posters that DG responded to above.
Whatever his plan is it doesn't justify being such an asshole and scaring her so badly that when he does get her to the hotel she believes that he is going to rape her/sexually assault her.
And all she can do is plead with him to be gentle since she has never done that before.

He knew how vulnerable she was from hearing her story (no money for an apartment, mom dead, living in the last place she felt safe with her mom).
He also knew that she is an employee of his.
And his response is that her issues "aren't his problem".
The realtor even was shocked at how much of an asshole he was being.

He decides to help her, but rather than just saying that and reassuring her that she is safe and he won't hurt her, he continues to order her around and frighten her by threatening to take her to the police.
He just orders her to get in his truck or else.
She's clearly scared of him.
And then he gets her to the hotel and he tells the front desk person "not two beds, one king bed" - and you can see that she is just barely holding it together.

I'm sure that as I play further he will give some justification for how he behaved, but sorry DG, nothing that he was planning justifies scaring and traumatizing her so badly and making her think that he was going to rape or sexually assault her like she clearly thinks.

And anyone saying "well, he wants to get her to a safer place and help her long-term" - that's certainly true, but you don't do that by traumatizing a vulnerable young woman by making her think you are going to sexually assault her.
It is explained later why he acted the way he did. He even admits he was a dick to her.

Fuck me when i saw that fucking render,i half expected to see Sung Jin Woo pop out behind her while screaming ARISE
and yet you had the exact reaction that I wanted you to have!
I was in retail management for 20 years. most of those interviews were variants of things I have actually gone through in interviews over the years.
In my early 30's I had a 60 something female who looked like a walking corpse offer to give me bj's every shift if I would hire her... She turned out to be a great employee, just not for me. I saw her a few months later working at another location in our district.
When I gave the manager a hard time about hiring her, he said that he had let his assistant do her interview... the same assistant who had been fired a couple weeks earlier when some parents complained and Loss Prevention came in and checked the cameras and discovered that yes, the assistant did in fact get a 16 year old cashier pregnant in the backroom in full view of the camera.
Of course is it really all that surprising considering it was a chain of Drug stores that was owned by the J.C. Penny Corporation?
Oh, the things I have seen! :ROFLMAO:

As I recall, how you approached her was your choice: more compassionate versus more scary. So, how do you justify taking the scary route, since that's all on you? ;)

That was all through the compassionate route.

There were two choices:
1. Be gentle
2. Yell at her

Everything I mentioned happened after choosing Be Gentle.

God only knows what would have happened if I had chosen the cruel (yelling) option.
MC probably would have thrown her off the top of the building.. :)

You can control how you treat others.
You can't control how others receive/understand/interpret it.

If you think for a bit, you'll understand that her reaction is caused more by the history of her life than by what you did. I shudder when I think what kind of "people" she has encountered, judging by what she expects. If only this was just "fictional". If only....

Peace :(

That is certainly true, but I don't believe she overreacted.
He said that what happens to her wasn't his problem.
He threatened her with the police and forced her to get into his truck and go with him, refusing to explain why he wanted her to do that.
He took her to a hotel and told the front desk that there was only one bed needed.

Of course, we know he didn't mean anything sinister but she didn't know him and had no reason to trust him.

All he would have had to do during that whole scene was just to stop and tell her that he wasn't going to hurt her and was going to help her.

And he knew that he was scaring her but refused to try to defuse the situation.

Even the realtor, who knows he is a good guy, thought he was being rude and scary and was hesitant to trust what he was doing.
You can't blame the girl for thinking the worst.
Most women, regardless of their background, would be scared by someone forcing them to get into their vehicle and refusing to explain why or their intentions.

I'd argue that the scene works because the audience knows he's a good guy. You're completely right that the writing is forcing the situation to happen, but personally I didn't mind it here. If UC8 were a story that took itself seriously, I'd have a different opinion, but it's very much a self-aware comedy.

Yeah, it didn't ruin the story or game or anything.
I just think the writing was done poorly in that scene.
We know later that the scene shows that the MC is suffering some PTSD and loses his temper at times through that.

So it is useful.

My argument is just that that could have been accomplished with him still snapping at her, and even ordering her around and threatening her with the police to do what he says.
But then before it got to the point of the hotel and her thinking she was going to be sexually assaulted the MC could have stepped back and just told her that he was trying to help her and would not hurt her.
He knew he was scaring her.

That would still have shown that the MC has some underlying issues but stopped short of traumatizing Poppy too much.
