It is explained later why he acted the way he did. He even admits he was a dick to her.I just got to the Poppy introduction scene and I fully agree with the two posters that DG responded to above.
Whatever his plan is it doesn't justify being such an asshole and scaring her so badly that when he does get her to the hotel she believes that he is going to rape her/sexually assault her.
And all she can do is plead with him to be gentle since she has never done that before.
He knew how vulnerable she was from hearing her story (no money for an apartment, mom dead, living in the last place she felt safe with her mom).
He also knew that she is an employee of his.
And his response is that her issues "aren't his problem".
The realtor even was shocked at how much of an asshole he was being.
He decides to help her, but rather than just saying that and reassuring her that she is safe and he won't hurt her, he continues to order her around and frighten her by threatening to take her to the police.
He just orders her to get in his truck or else.
She's clearly scared of him.
And then he gets her to the hotel and he tells the front desk person "not two beds, one king bed" - and you can see that she is just barely holding it together.

I'm sure that as I play further he will give some justification for how he behaved, but sorry DG, nothing that he was planning justifies scaring and traumatizing her so badly and making her think that he was going to rape or sexually assault her like she clearly thinks.
And anyone saying "well, he wants to get her to a safer place and help her long-term" - that's certainly true, but you don't do that by traumatizing a vulnerable young woman by making her think you are going to sexually assault her.
It's a render from the game.......MAN WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THIS????????? View attachment 5482695

As I recall, how you approached her was your choice: more compassionate versus more scary. So, how do you justify taking the scary route, since that's all on you?I just got to the Poppy introduction scene and I fully agree with the two posters that DG responded to above.

That was all through the compassionate route. As I recall, how you approached her was your choice: more compassionate versus more scary. So, how do you justify taking the scary route, since that's all on you?![]()
You can control how you treat others. That was all through the compassionate route.
There were two choices:
1. Be gentle
2. Yell at her
Everything I mentioned happened after choosing Be Gentle.
God only knows what would have happened if I had chosen the cruel (yelling) option.
MC probably would have thrown her off the top of the building..![]()
That is certainly true, but I don't believe she overreacted. You can control how you treat others.
You can't control how others receive/understand/interpret it.
If you think for a bit, you'll understand that her reaction is caused more by the history of her life than by what you did. I shudder when I think what kind of "people" she has encountered, judging by what she expects. If only this was just "fictional". If only....
Peace![]()
I'd argue that the scene works because the audience knows he's a good guy. You're completely right that the writing is forcing the situation to happen, but personally I didn't mind it here. If UC8 were a story that took itself seriously, I'd have a different opinion, but it's very much a self-aware comedy.Even the realtor, who knows he is a good guy, thought he was being rude and scary and was hesitant to trust what he was doing.
You can't blame the girl for thinking the worst.
Yeah, it didn't ruin the story or game or anything.I'd argue that the scene works because the audience knows he's a good guy.
