Thanks for taking your time to answer my questions.
I've already downloaded and tried to do a few things. I installed some mods using in-game mod browser, tried adding a character I downloaded to the empty scene and failed because menu's are confusing as hell and I couldn't find characters I've downloaded.
Then I opened a scene after puzzling through confusing menus once again. Then tried to possess the girl pre-loaded within said scene and I still have no idea how the fuck am I supposed to even do it with keyboard and mouse.
I also added a male character to scene to have sex because this is a sex game afterall but I wasn't able to add animations to any characters.
At this point I'm pretty sure this "game" is made for developers and not players like me who just want to fap. One of the mods I've downloaded required tweaks to the scene and character before it is applied and I literally didn't understood what the fuck is going on in install tutorial of it.
Menu after menu after menu... just to setup a basic scene and I couldn't even find how to add downloaded characters to the scene let alone sex animations. Also do animations even exist? I am not sure.
The only meaningful thing I was able to do in 1 hour of playing this game is click and drag the default character body around the scene like a maniac. Developers of this game needs to be a WAY more user friendly. I doubt even if I had VR I'd be able to do anything meaningful with this game.
After 1 confusing as hell hour of playing this game I decided to uninstall it. It just isn't worth the effort. Maybe I'll give it another try in the future but right now I'm confused because it feels like I need to be a game developer to understand how to "play" this "game".
I'll go from top to bottom regarding your questions
as a new user, I would strongly suggest familiarizing yourself with premade scenes first. for example reignmocap, kittymocap and clubjulze have some packs available in the old threads and are very good. a vast majority of people use this method. creating a scene from scratch is very hard even for some people who have been using vam for a long time. If you want to use a character's appearance that you've downloaded, you first have to save their appearance. here are the steps
1)load the character you downloaded first and take control of the character (tic edit mode and find the model's name. it will usually be called person, person 2 for two people in a scene or the char's name if the creator wasn't lazy)
2)next click the screwdriver wrench icon on the lower right called show selected UI.
3)from there you can click save look and name the model whatever you want ( set the clothing you want or take them all off before saving so it saves the look that you want) you can also use the save preset button for this but I sometimes find it breaks some older scenes
note* some characters have assets that require the CUA manager plugin which the author will say if it's needed some characters will also only show up in appearance presets and not the scene browser in the main page. in this case, just load up a scene and go to appearance presets to load the character up.
now that you've saved the look you want you can go to the scene browser. essentially the middle option when you open vam. if you've downloaded mods/packs/characters and correctly installed them (.vars only go into the addon packages folder) them they should appear in the list. now all you need to do is load the scene you want and replace the models in the scene with the ones that you want. don't forget to switch from edit mode to play mode so the animations play correctly.
now for the characters to look correct, you're going to have to download morph packs, hairs, clothing, etc. some creators bundle them with their scenes or looks but some don't. generally, you'd want everything from acid bubble, hunting succubus,Miki,NoStage,Oeshii and Prestigitis since a lot of other mods are dependent on mods released by them but this is by no means the complete list.
I agree that Vam has a steep learning curve and I was also once almost in the same boat as you. but my desire to coom to VR Jill Valentine gave me the strength to continue. just learn it one step at a time and don't be afraid to ask questions. once you get the hang of it you will be rewarded with arguably one of the best sandbox porngames out there
