Never played subverse. If it sounds like shit, its not good voice acting. So it's not high quality.

I'm pretty sure most of these will have been japanese, where there's a huge market for voice actresses in general and where it's indeed possible to get actual quality.
For western games that's certainly different, especially once you consider that we aren't talking about a short(ish) VN with like 5 or 6 girls, but about a game with a huge cast.

English is the world language, so in theory they should have a bigger market for voice actresses. So their should be no issue. It all comes down to money. Like pretty much everything else in this world.

It's not only money in this case. In Japan it's still relatively normal and to a degree socially accepted to work in these areas. In the west that's not really the case and comparetively few artists are indeed willing to work in the field because they fear it'll influence their future career negatively. It's the same with 2D artists, where many rather prefer non NSFW work, because they don't dare to add NSFW works to their portfolio in fear companies etc. won't hire them afterwards.
So the pool of people is indeed not as big as one may think. At least not as long as we are talking about professionals and not some girls who want to make a quick buck with some semi professional porn.
Edit: What I mean by that is, that in Japan there are literally A list VA who voiced porn but then managed to get important characters in popular (kids) shows like Naruto, Detective Conan, etc. That would never happen in the US.

For good and cheap dubing you need to find good but cheap actors. In these days you can try Kevin Spacey or Johnny Depp. But I don't know of any woman who has been accused of domestic violence or moral offenses. And for hetero porn game are needded more woman than man...
I think we're just going to agree to disagree here. You find eroge VA to be good, I find it hilarious. All the fake high tone screams and moaning, extremely overacted. Kinda like anime in general. For what it's worth, Subverse hired the most expensive VA's they could, the only few that had made a name for themselves doing porn VA. They also had a budget 2 orders of magnitude more than WaL.
Then again this might be a personal pet peeve of mine. In sex, women don't just suddenly turn into hardbass speakers. But the porn industry portrays it that way, and so it's expected of VA's and actual porn actresses to fake the ridiculous moans. Just sounds fake and insincere...like porn itself.
Either way this game will never get voice acting due to the budget and the amount of different characters sooooo

I love how we segued from establishing that the Patreon income is about right for supporting a household of two (a.k.a. adequate for the dev team themselves) to saying they should hire A-list, English-language voice actors for the dozen or so characters already in the game with it.

I guess there are multiple parts to this discussion.
1) Are we talking about voice acting all of the dialog, or are we talking about adding moans to the sex scenes? The former is considerably more expensive than the latter.
2) The degree to which porn style heavy moans are realistic.
The answer to 2 is complicated. There are literally billions of couples having sex regularly in this world, and there's unquestionably variety in how that sex plays out. I suspect that, without outside influences, the vast majority of women are considerably less evocative during sex than you see in porn. But porn does what it does because what it does is popular. And, I'm sure that there people who, having seen and enjoyed porn, have asked their partners to act differently in bed. That's not just being louder. It's also trying different positions and roleplays, etc. So, for good or bad (or both), porn influences reality.
In the end, though, WaL is more "erotic" than "porn." It skips most of the more extreme porn tropes, from incest, to beachball sized breasts, to abusive/forced sex. So, you'd expect that if they added audio to the sex scenes, they'd also skip the more extreme loud moaning.
This makes adding audio feel like a no win situation to me. The people who want porn-style moaning would be disappointed, and even the people who enjoy "realistic" sounds would probably notice that there are so few of them in a scene that they'd question how much the sounds really add.
In my own experience, I added sex sounds to a few of my games, but doing so was, by far, my least favorite part of developing erotic games. So, at some point, I polled my audience on what they wanted. I got a fairly even 1/3 split between, "I hate the sounds and turn off the audio," "I could take them or leave them," and "I really like them." Biased by my own dislike of adding the sounds, I chose to interpret that as "2/3 of my audience doesn't care if I stop doing sounds" and happily stopped doing them.

Even with all that said, their are still plenty of voice actors too chose from in the west, that are willing to voice porn games. Way more then the Japanese. It's just porn visual novels in japan are more popular. Western visual novels aren't as big as Japanese visual novels. We would see more voiced porn games on here, but most of the games aren't finished or they just don't have the budget for it. Since a lot of games have a big cast of characters. Also i Never heard from any devs that they cant' find voice actors because their afraid to do it. It's a money issue. Not a labor shortage.
