Well since you never played the game then you probably don't know that A) this is actually a free game and the devs don't lock it behind a patreon wall b) it's a two person team with a lot of 2d artwork c) the devs offer refunds and d) the updates focus on one character and pretty much finish the majority of the planned content for that characterThat's deflecting also whether everyone accepts it or not, those are products with one off payments, the company gains nothing by waiting so long between releases. The patreon model provides insentive to work slower.
I'm saying this as an outsider, never actually played the game, just curious
There's a lot of reason why the development is slow and the patreon is just for people who want to support them. People just have no faith in devs. Every thread on this site is this same shit where people want to whine about being milked. It's frustrating that that the updates take a while and I know there are some devs that do milk but those devs but that doesnt mean every dev does that. You can usually tell which devs milk stuff and which ones don't based on how much cotent they put in each update and often they update their patreon or communicate with supporters. There's a lot of content in each of these updates so it's not surprising there's a lot of time in between them.
