I understand what you mean I would certain like to have each character have their own story but any developer needs to be aware od Scope Creep and after what happened with v.0.7 I would not be surprised if they wanted to rush it and get done with the game for good.
I'm sure the constant changes on Patreon guidelines may had their impact on their initial plans to and now that they are forced to take a different route they will just take advantage of it to short their path to reach the goal: the Final 1.0 version.
It's obvious that they had too much stuff planned and now they are just getting rid of stuff they don't consider worth for the sake of finishing the game.
But that just a possibility, I don't know their plan and if it's different than what they had before, even v.0.7 final result is different than what 8s was when they start, it's better now than it was before they changed it? Will this new path be better than the one they planned before? Who knows. Let's just hope for the best I guess.

Game dev continues to be a lot of hard work for small batches of content, especially if you're making something that isn't just generic models bought off a site.
