What are your thoughts on games with female protagonist?

Male preferring female protagonists here. Fundamentally what I want from porn games is the porn so unlike epic fantasy or badass sci-fi having pure eye candy to stare at all the time actually is a major benefit. Since I prefer sandboxy games it also makes masturbation and quick hookup content far more tolerable, and ultimately being in control of a female should present an easier time picking and choosing the content I prefer because the key ingredient is already there (especially for 3D games with character creators so MC body type doesn't become an issue).

That said most protagonists, both male and female, are absolutely AWFUL to me! The females are either prude virgins who I actively have to fight against while playing, often dragging in content I don't enjoy like grinding early rape trains to raise the "slut"/"corruption" stat and finally get some decent sex scenes, or they already start maxed out as fuckdolls whose only defining character trait is "vagina". On the flip side the males seem to be either pathetic doormat losers or rapey assholes.

Honestly I would prefer if people just wrote generic male hero tropes with female pronouns/art and the obligatory "wanna bang?" dialogue choices like a pervier James Bond with tits. Surely that isn't harder to write than coming up with ridiculous reasons why the "female boss/warrior" goes along with blackmail or cannot fight off rapists, and instead of plotting to drug and rape half the neighbourhood maybe the challenge/gameplay gate could lie in actually getting them to agree to polygamous relationships?

I don't like games where the protagonist is thrown into unavoidable situations with perverted, sleazy, scumbag characters. Cases in point: Lida's Adventure, Lily of the Valley, Manila Shaw: Blackmail Obsession, Good Girl Gone Bad, most RPGMaker games.

bibiche i feel the same.

It's already hard for me to roleplay as a woman but to whore yourself to get the H scene cause there's literally no other way of getting it is just not for me. Playing a game where i don't portray myself as the mc is no fun for me.

Even in The Sims I initiate most of the sex scenes as the male avatar. I use females for that only if it involves one of my male avatars. Speaking of Sims, I mostly create harems with 1 dude, rarely 2. Creating reverse harem (which would be like female protagonist game environment) would feel weird and more like nympho chick or bi dude fantasy.

You can't really blame the general concept of a female protagonist for that though. For reasons unknown to me the vast majority of such games happen to be damsel rapefests, but then how many male protagonist games are there where the females you have sex with aren't whores, some variant of rape/blackmail/mindbreak victim or "the one true love" who requires MMO level grind just to have your first kiss?

Spontaneously I would say that it is because the majority of the developers of such games are male and, as we all know, many men are simply not able to portray women well.
In addition, these are after all porn games and they are mostly about (unrealistic) fantasies.

Seriously, why do people like those sort of games?

That doesn't explain anything even if it is true. In terms of fantasy and wish fulfilment my default expectation would see almost every woman being a willing slut who nevertheless remains irrationally faithful to the author self-insert character. Similarly, as a man with no particular training in writing, my approach to writing a female protagonist would be to copy existing characters and then change details where necessary. Only with that approach the vast majority of characters would be very strong-willed because that is a defining characteristic of traditional heroes, yet we see the exact opposite where the "strong female warrior" loses to common street thugs and becomes addicted to cock after two rounds of fucking.

In most cases (especially porn), the writing is not linear, but retroactive (does this sentence make sense?).
What has to happen, so that I can have this event / scene?
The heroine has to be fucked, so of course she will lose this fight.
The heroine has to become a stupid bimbo slut, so it is enough to fuck her a few times.
This may due to a lack of creativity on the part of the developers, or simply laziness, or everything else would be too long or too complicated. Your guesses are as good as mine.

Just so you know, I agree with you. ;)

That needs to read "the heroine has to be raped..." otherwise you'd just give her the sexual mindset of a man. Give Tony Stark tits and a vagina, are you telling me "she" wouldn't install a quick-access hatch so she can power-fuck anyone who strikes her fancy? (edit: heck, canon or not male Tony Stark definitely installed that hatch either way!)

I can understand certain people having a truly sexual rape fetish, and I can understand a (potentially much larger) number of people seeking "revenge" against womankind because something like that is necessary to fuel incel communities. But why are they so prevalent over the obvious alternatives?

I dont really as such mind which protagonist there is. BUT, i have yet to find a decent adult game with a good portrayal of a female character. And that leaves not wanting to play those type games. 90% or more of the games are males portraying a female, from a male fantasy perspective, and its boring as fuck. Or you get someone who has no clue about women, and make a bland approach, and again its boring. Aka, its done from the wrong perspective, or underdone.
Its kind of like the more extreme fetish section. Its either too much, or almost none at all. There is no middle ground. Either youre getting chastitycaged and forced fucked by angry girls with strapons or demolished by gay guys, or youre getting a slight tap on the bottom. Middle ground seems to have altogether disappeared.

So I no longer even bother looking at female protagonist games, at all.

I think a big part of the problem is, that creators dont actually have a story to tell, they just wanna make a porn game. And only the first will have a good game. The other will have to make do with overdoing.

I actually find it less enjoyable to play male protagonists. All these douchebag MC's in so many games obsessing over mommies massive tits. Throw in some blackmail and now the whole neighborhood is sucking MC's magic dick. yay...
It mostly resolves around gaining power and control over others and I don't find it that interesting, especially in most badly written games all it takes is flashing a big dick. That's just lazy.
There are some good ones I play, but often I'm more interested in the female characters and not so much the main character.

I often find with female protagonist games you give up that control and see where it takes you and with your actions you shape yourself instead of those around you. I find that a lot more intriguing.

I love to play as a female protagonist as long as you are not forced to be raped. I think that's the worst thing I can see in a visual novel. you play as a female, and you are raped.

For me it's simple, when playing a male main character, I like to think of him as myself and reflect his actions as mine. When playing as a female main character, I don't see her as myself, but as if I am watching a porn movie I direct myself.

Most of the time when playing female main character games, I see myself as the director yelling "Bitch, you better suck that dick again".

Interesting to read this. In my game, I have a sequence that I recently scrapped, where MC's sister becomes the lead character for a while (taking place 6 months in the future after MC has gone missing). The way you describe how you'd like a female protagonist to behave is pretty much the way it's written. I've avoided many tropes - some by design, some not - that I've seen in other games, but I have to be honest: I've gotten more than a few private requests to insert them, especially rape, blackmail and the like. These tropes probably exist for a reason - they're popular - players dig 'em , whatever - but I definitely agree I'd love to see what you described in a game, over the usual.

I like female protagonists because they tend to have a much better story arcs than male protagonists due to to following a single individual's story. Male protagonist games have like 10 different chicks that don't have interesting stories or personalities. Those girls are so lifeless its like sticking my dick in a mailbox because I can mail it to the next one. They have an address and that's about as much as I know about them.
