You make it sound like the last 4 times haven't completely rewritten major aspects of the plot. At some point you have to ask whether or not it's worth it because I can't remember which iteration of the plot were on. We're pretty much just playing drafts at this point.
They're still "family", just not family. Katie is a "real" Zane, as are Kata and her parents and brother. Leia and MC were raised by the Zanes as wards, but not adopted. The relationships are emotionally the same. Some of it is stupid, but plausible in the world Ocean's created. Crime Families have rules and their own cultural quirks. They're not as out there as some other crime family games.
Ocean has a Patreon account I just saw here, maybe that's the reason. Some developers post Steam links on Patreon, maybe that explains it too, who knows...

Ocean basically said on Discord today he feels Steam and GOG would eventually adopt the same policy as Patreon and Subscribestar. To quote him loosely, he’s not getting near that shit (incest) anymore.
The "mafia rules" basically allow Ocean to make it up as he goes along. Anything that is out of place, "Oh that's just how this family does things." I think I'm almost done with the playthrough as well and while some of the story changes are messy, I didn't hate chapter 4 as much as I thought I would.
I think I got my 8 bucks worth, and that's just Miru and Katie.

fantastic assumption but, no. I downloaded this the first time years ago and every time there is a major update there's a rewrite or retcon and the plot barely advances. Legitimate criticism isn't trolling mate. Not sure why you'd think I'm trolling either. You might accept having to restart because things keep changing every update but, I not even going to try anymore.
Cant really expect anything to Oceansimps. He'd rework both games again i feel it.

The game has another 26 chapters to go which will take 26+ more years.. there's no doubt it'll be redone once again at some point.
