Fair enough. You know I was just teasing
Overall I agree but...
I think there's something else lacking. Which honestly has been lacking in both his games lately.
Gravitas. Which is devastating for me. I've said this about SG as well but I used to feel something while playing his games. Not anymore. The emotional heights the games were able to achieve have decreased substantially. Now any emotional peaks in a scene seem fake and manufactured. It doesn't quite hit the spot for me anymore.
The prison time for Will for example. How poorly handled was that? Did you anytime get a feeling that the time spent in there was anything other than a breeze for him? Nothing about his demeanor or conversations with Miru or the Warden denote any kind of struggle. Time spent in jail seems to have taken no toll or bother him at all.
Did you feel like the Zanes and Aranos and whatever adjacent people were in danger at any point? From anyone? Rocks? Really? Did you get the feeling the Families or the Don's or whatever Mafioso morons were a threat? I certainly did not. Fuck sakes William even says they like him too much to kill him. He just takes any kind of serious threat off the table and I'm supposed to think they are dangerous? Katie has been fucking Zoe for how long now? And she says has she hasn't seen the Giopepe's in 5 years or whatever. They don't care.
The Krayt. Have they felt like a threat? Even when they were harrasing Gina she showed more balls then those pussies. I'm not even gonna talk about the moron that got knocked out by William.
Like seriously. Leia has shown to be more dangerous to ANYONE in 5 seconds of screentime than all this morons put together. Maybe with the exception of the baldy that pointed the weapon at Donna (Wait was it Donna?!?!!?)
It's not that I hate the Mafia theme. I hate how poorly implemented it is.
It does a bad job at replacing the ic/family dynamics we had before.
It does a bad job at being believable just because of the sheer scope of the "syndicate"
It does a bad job at being taken seriously because of the silly rules they try "enforce"
The Mafia thing is gonna serve as a crutch for Ocean to shape events as he sees fit. Making up rules here and there to advance the plot. That's not good writing.
