It's surreal how anxious we are for an update, and after it comes out we don't even care to play it, after all the next one shouldn't be out for another 2 years.

Well, everything. The whole JJ Abrams "mystery box" storytelling is annoying: oh no, the MC left town for a *mysterious* reason. He had a *mysterious* falling-out with his not-sisters. There was a *mysterious* accident.
The MC goes back only to find out what happened to his not-mom (who I assume is illiterate, because she could've just written down some clues) and instead does random stuff like hunting spiders like a big pussy or helping out at a farm.

That isn't the problem, kinda.
It would have made sense at the beginning if it was never an incest story, with a better story than what we got.
The problem is that the incest part was a huge part of it because the story was made around that.
Now, with that part gone, the story that was okay but with a lot of plot holes, as more plot holes and the more you play, the less sense it's makes.
It's like playing a AAA game, but besides the amazing visuals, everything is an empty shell.

Ocean's storytelling style has always been like this. Everything becomes perfectly clear over time, but you don't like this approach to storytelling, it's not that something in the game doesn't make sense. Everything there makes sense and follows the plot.
One of the "mysterious" reasons for the protagonist leaving town was given by Katie directly: she thinks he ran away because of her, they kissed and he, realizing his attraction to her and the possible consequences, decided to run away.
This wouldn't make much sense in a normal situation, in your average college game. But in the circumstanses that Ocean has chosen for his characters, it is obvious. The people the MC lives with are extremely cruel and in some aspects adhere to medieval views and traditions. His act is something like a stable boy kissing a king's daughter who's hand was promised to the son of a neighboring king before she was born. If this comes to light, the engagement is off, the union is broken. And the stable boy will die a slow, painful death.
A mysterious accident - yes, the MC doesn't know what happened to Helen and tries to investigate. He's sure it wasn't an accident and tries to figure out who's behind it. Why this suddenly doesn't make sense?
In order for everything to make sense, you have to believe in some basic parameters of the fictional world. Like in Aliens, if you start denying the existence of creatures with acid instead of blood, arguing that this is impossible - well, damn, dude, why even start watching sci-fi then? Nobody claims that WiAB is a documentary novel written based on the biography of a retired mafia boss.

Apples and oranges! Sci-Fi is a different genre apart from a halfway normal contemporary setting. Even if we suspend disbelief for the super stupid rules of the MAFIA wotld Ocean pulled out where the sun does not shine there is a point you consistently ignore. Probably because neither you nor any other white knight of Ocean has a good answer for it. Even if we SoD the idiot rules Ocean uses, there is no, absolutely no logical or even emotional, reason for Willi to ever return to Wollust!

Suspension of disbelief is a universal concept that applies to any fictional content. How about unisex college showers, nothing bothers you about that? Or math tests for juniors from a correction school given to the freshmen in college? And a magic powder that turns a regular med student into a sex giant who fucks four MILFs senseless?
As for the reasons for MC to return, there is no, absolutely no logical or even emotional reason for you to repeat it like a broken record. I don't care what you believe or not.

And if it was from the very beginning, okay, but it explodes like a nuclear bomb in ch4 and nothing led to it. As if John Wick at the end resurrected on the steps, got into a spaceship and flew to bomb the syndicate colony on Mars.
I speak for myself, but it was precisely because of the close realism that I loved this game.
I can't accept it when drama is turned into fantasy.
Can I believe in organized crime, that the son crossed the line of kinship, in tyrant parents, that over time MC missed them and returned? Yes, I can. It is easier to believe in a club in the city center with prostitution, where they sell drugs and transport weapons, the alpha Willie that everyone wants.
Can I believe that mafia syndicates from BIG families with feudal jokes, killed two big families, took the children they wanted to kill in the same way, gave them without adoption and documents to another family, that the children fell in love with those to whom they were given as a "cup" which will then be given to another family (Leah doesn't know about this, and Katie Willie?), in exchange for power? No, this is complete nonsense.
I'll come to terms with it in time, but it's become a fantasy, like communal showers in college.
Damn, I promised I'd quit this, but I got carried away again and went into this thread.

He absolutely did not run away when he was 18. He went to juvenile prison not long after he ran away. You have to be under 18 for that.I just realized, Katie is 19 now, William ran away 8 years ago when he was 18. It turns out that an 18y dude old kissed and made move on 11y
Also, I don't think it's expressly stated that he kisses Katie. Before the reworks, the reason why he ran away is because Katie was going to rat him and Leia out for having a forbidden relationship.
