She promised him that she will take care of him in case he doesn't get anything from the inheritance, doesn't that count as a first move? Those two aspects can not be fully separated, especially if we are to believe that the turn around of Elaine was partly caused by reading that will condition and we are to assume from a remark that Elaine made that her fulfilling that condition would make MC hate her.
Considering Mc having to tell first, it was not MC that threw Elaine out of her house directly after Dad died and threatened to destroy her stuff after treating her as non-existent person for years.
A first move by Elaine would make all the sense in the world with her knowing their past and yeah that would not have to be an outright telling by her but just an offer to share their information. Even more if both now know the third party knows all conditions. Sure Mc could make that offer as well, but how many reasons does he have to truly trust Elaine, who is holding back a lot of info, amongst others what she is doing with lawyers and has only her word she is also doing it in his interest. Lack of trust of MC makes all the sense in the world.
Elaine can't erase the past, but it seems to me that in the present she is there ready to apologize and to take continual slaps and outbursts, without ever hiding, and then if she really wanted to cheat him she would do much sooner to tell him about the fake conditions than to hide the real ones.
