I saw that 0.4d was released. Is this one named 0.4c in the thread actually 0.4d? Since it showed up very close to release?

No, it's 0.4c, as the OP says. 0.4d is for patrons and will make its way over here sometime down the road. The version here only showed up 3 days ago, so it will probably be awhile before d arrives on F95.

After playing v0.4c I must agree that the flashback was way too excessive. A whole update revolving around a distant flashback is not something I'm too interested in, let alone seeing Emma's mom and sister (what a fucking bombshell!) being humiliated and sullied by a disgusting son of a bitch time and again.
Besides, it seems that the dev puts much more effort in the flashback scenes than in the cube's scenes: cinematic devices, animated sex scenes, different choices... I can't understand it. The flashbacks are definitely useful to provide some necessary background to our protagonists' past experiences, but they should be used much more sparingly; the 3 super long flashbacks that we've seen in the game so far are too much. I want to see more of John, Emma and Amelia: there are still 7 tests to pass!

Was looking forward to see how the story continues.
Instead some weird backstory with unknown characters and very looooong unskipable scenes. No warning, no explanation, no context. It just felt wrong and did not fit into the story so far at all as a stand-alone-update.
It´s when you expect a steak but getting icecream instead...
FFR, you should be able to skip those nevertheless if you mark "Unseen Text" in the Preferences (under Skip) and then you hold the Ctrl key (or your equivalent) until you see dialog. Roll back a few times until you see the Emma and Amelia in the cube again, and finally roll forward once and you'll be on the first line of dialogue in that scene. So you can do that same thing in the future too with any other scenes where you decide you want to skip past non-dialogue renders.

Anekin69, I assume you mean to have Mark say this line and not Cindy:

I am also a little confused with the quality of the video of sex between Mark and Cindy vs. the quality of the video when you zoom in to Mark at the dinner table. The first seems more like some home-video capture from the 1980s or something, much lower quality and moving about a bit shakily. I suppose there might be some artistic statement in there, but it is absolutely not obvious to someone like me. The second is crisper (no horizontal lines, for example) and steady. Going through the rest of the update, I was looking for some kind of symbolism, like maybe Emma had seen it, or something else to explain it, like maybe Anna filmed the whole thing as evidence to use against Mark later. But I didn't see any of that (in fact, Anna acts like she only suspects that Mark raped Cindy, which would mean she didn't see anything). So, I'm puzzled by the difference in quality.

I kinda feel like this is the perverted porn version of the first SAW movie haha. The sister Amelia is the antagonist who locked them both to play a game. Amelia is the dead body in the room in SAW I hahahah. Not complaining, i really like it.

Maybe she wants something more with her brother and trying to break him, which is hot btw. Emma might just be a tool or her past was indirectly connected to Amelia, maybe something to do with the accident or her step dad Mark, revenge vibes perhaps.

In any case i'm really liking the narrative. Its a breathe of fresh air from the overused college/highschool/young adult slice of life setting.

True, a fresh, almost unique setting. And due to the minimalistic exterieur, the interieur of the characters must be better than the usual. Hope he can live up to our high expectations. I have a slight feeling he is out of ideas and a good pace after the first setting up. But hopefully I am wrong.

And obviously that's completely your choice. But to be clear, the model Patreon is built on is not a buy-a-product model. It's a support-a-creator model, in the hope that they are legit and will make something you will enjoy. It's obviously a risk, but so is buying a completed game and finding it falls apart halfway through — something that also happens all the time. I see very little advantage of one over the other, but I do understand your point. Some people prefer one more than the alternative, and of course that's completely fine.
The clear advantage of the later is that a finished game can be reviewed by both professionals (ha!) and your friends and other players. I solidly prefer this. Patron offers no real incentive, that I've seen over the years, to finish a product. A developer who doesn't finish products can simply change their user name and go again.

Everyone has and should have the freedom to spend their money how they want. Just my two cents on the matter.
