A HOLIDAY UPDATE! - December 14, 2024
(As posted on our Patreon Page)
Hello Everyone,
Before getting into this, all of us here at ASLPro3D would like to take a moment to wish all of you a very warm, happy and safe holiday! It is our sincerest hope that this holiday season brings much joy, happiness and a wonderful start to a new year for all of you!!
As for what has been going on over here, as mentioned previously, I’ve been a victim of much poking and prodding, been inspected, injected, photographed and documented by doctors and radiologists for the last couple of months as they worked to understand what has been going on with my arm after my mid-summer fall… and, after waiting to have the MRI and consultation with the surgeon before reporting back to all of you, we’ve (finally) now have an answer...
As you can see by the above two reports, and to break it down simply, there was a great amount of damage to the arm and shoulder…
1. A contusion found on the upper proximal part of the humorous in Xray but not in MRI (likely because MRI was taken 4 months after Xray was taken).
2. But a nice amount of fluid/swelling along the longhead tendon of the bicep.
3. I definitely have what they call a SLAP tear of my labrum in the shoulder socket.
4. Arthritis/damage in the socket itself, as well as fluid that has built up in the joint.
And, last but not least…
5. Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis)
So, the treatment is going to be 6 weeks (3x a week) of extensive physical therapy to try and ‘unfreeze’ the shoulder, as well as try to reduce the swelling in the joint and along the tendon; that is the first goal…
Depending on how well it goes, that may be the END of what needs to be done if that alleviates and rids me of the pain that I’ve been suffering through since July.
However, if it doesn’t and should it be needed, then we will schedule and have arthroscopic surgery performed on the shoulder to repair the cartilage and tear, clean up the damage within the joint and remove the fluid that has built up in there (sort of like draining a knee and fixing a meniscus tear), followed by an additional 4 weeks of physical torture… erm, I mean therapy.
I was informed by the surgeon that the start of treatment for the ‘Frozen Shoulder’ is going to be a very painful and unpleasant ordeal, because of this and not wanting to suffer during the holidays, we’ve decided to hold off on the physical therapy till after the New Year.
Now, I am sure you are asking how this affects the game and our release…
Work on the game has been sporadic, but I have been working on it and will continue to do so while I am undergoing treatment (physical torture). Being that I am right-handed and it is my right arm that is damaged, combined the fact that I refused to wear my sling (as I was instructed to do at the very beginning of this in July) and continued working while I was able to, has saved my shoulder from being completely frozen (score one for being a ‘stubborn ass’)… but it has also helped to continue to provide the swelling of the tendon and nerves which has been giving me the grief that I’ve been suffering.
I expect, if it is as painful as the surgeon says that it is going to be, I won’t be getting a whole hell of a lot of work done the first couple of weeks of the new year and physical therapy, but as I progress in it, I should be able to get more and more work done.
If I need surgery on the shoulder at the conclusion of the 6 weeks, then I will be out of work for another two weeks and possibly one of the four weeks of physical therapy following the two weeks after surgery.
In short, the game won’t likely be released till spring… we’ve discussed releasing what we do have and then releasing the rest when I was finished, but… personally… I’d rather wait to release it when it is completely done and this shit is behind me, this way we have can follow a regular release schedule for the game without (hopefully) having any further interruptions.
The good news, if there is any to be had in all of this, is that this will mark the first year in the last four that I’ve not required any surgery at all on this ancient and broken-down body of mine… but only because we probably ran the clock down till the end of the year while I bounced from doctor to doctor and waiting for openings for imaging, as well as having to see the surgeon….
…but still, a full year without surgery and at least broke this crazy cycle of having yearly surgeries.
Yay!
So, that is where things stand as they are right now.
As always, I will continue working to bring the release out to all of you, while undergoing all of this BS and in the meantime will be posting some holiday renders behind the Patreon paywall (because of TOS) and on X (formally Twitter) of the characters that you’ll be meeting and interacting with in our upcoming game to try and celebrate this holiday season with all of you.
We want to thank you for your continued love, prayers and show of support that you’ve all been sending our way and we please ask that you have a very safe and wonderful holiday and blessed New Year!
Sincerely,
Jack and the staff of ASLPro3D
