I would love to do that, but my country have some issues with foreign payments atm.
"Not surprised" my ass…
Alright, that's a totally understandable reason, please pardon my snarky remark. Kinda of a PTSD from people whining for a link literal SECONDS after an update drops. But they'd never take the mantle of the leaker and share with their fellow pirates, EVEN ONCE. They're here to beg, and they don't even say thank you for the link.

Sorry for thinking you were one of those.

I'd gladly share it myself, b ut I'm short on money this month, so can't afford to burn 10 bucks for the cause

That's fine, nobody wear a "I'm totally willing to pay for stuff and I have money, but I can't" signature. Easy to mistake.

so, since it's going to be a bit until the new version shows up here (8.5.5 still listed on 1st page) i want to ask as i haven't seen it addressed yet: can i use character presets from previous builds?
i know old saves can bork the system, and have no issue starting over, especially since there's new places, NPCs, quests, and lore to discover, but i like the design of my character and don't feel like trying to remake them every time there's an update (exceptions made for major changes to character creation system)

The version 8.5.7 is available several pages before.
For some reasons people don't rep the updates to OP and just share the links in comments now

had no issues in 8.5.7 with using old presets

I've been waiting and watching this thread for a while. What is the current state of the game? Is it close to finish? Is it worth playing or should I wait more? I don't mind playing incomplete games as long as they don't have game breaking bugs that prevents progress.

Its definitely worth playing. It will never be fully focused on missions/quests tho they will be a part of the game (more was even added with this new update). It is more focused on survival/exploration with the porn aspect including all sorts of monsters defeating you for sex with pregnancy included as well. Spend time leveling up your skills, getting stronger to face stronger monsters. Dungeons to explore and face even stronger monsters. Eventually tho, you will be too strong for anything in the game, but that will take time and during that time you can enjoy it.
There is a cheat menu for now that allows players to increase/decrease xp gained for each different skill you have and also a global slider to effect them all. Make it what you want. Personally, I turn down level xp to 0.1 multiplier because my character levels too fast and then I'm bored with it.
Start out by creating your character and this part is extensive. Sooooo many sliders for customization that many people actually don't like it. But you really have a lot of control of what your character looks like. Or you can dl other people's presets on discord that you may find interesting.
Then there is also the building system. Its a hell of a lot like No Mans Sky if you've ever played that tho much smaller in scale. Huge plus for me because I did, but the point is you can build freely and create maybe a base or something and do it anywhere except under water (I could do that in No Mans Sky and I liked it so that part makes a little sad).
Word of advice if you choose to try it out; save often especially before doing something new. Like every 3D game on this site it has bugs which you can easily work around most of them, but initially they may mess up your game. Save often.

I LEARNED SOMETHING!

1. House building in this game can kiss my fat ass. Goddamn, trying to close off the ends of the building was a pain in the ass.
2. Stone/Castle pieces do not match up well with wood structures. Pick one or the other, the pieces seem to be different sizes.
3. ... Don't forget to breathe. It's 'just a game'. :)
4. Persistence (and some venting) can pay off.

For anyone wondering wtf, I was having a bit of a back and forth with Formasual about building things in the game and I was having a hell of a time trying to use the small, 45 degree, pieces to fill in the ends of the house, where the angled roof sections are.
I was finally able to cobble together something that wasn't completely crap looking, by mounting a full sized post at the peak where the 2 roof halves met. It lined up perfectly with the joint on the 2 wall sections and those 45 degree pieces started playing nice and actually snapping in place. I did still have to use a wood 'fence section' to cover up some gaps in the middle, but it fit in just perfectly. Still doesn't look that great, but much better than holes in the roof.
It's a shame that the wall sections wouldn't line up correctly with the house, the left side covers a bit more of the house than the right, but the stone pieces seem to be a bit bigger than the wood pieces, so it ain't perfect, but it felt good to actually finish the damn thing.

Too bad I am probably gonna have to start over from scratch if/when someone is kindly enough to drop the newest version for us leechers.

0.8.5.5 is just crashing on start. last version worked fine. any suggestions?
Tried clearing the old appdata folder from the previous version? May help but you'll lose saves/presets
Saves aren't compatible anyway but presets you can use

Wow, looks really good man, well done! Nothing I ever build ends up how I imagined it, but the result is usually still good if not better. Besides, the better looking architecture IRL isn't usually symmetrical anyway. But that looks like something I'd see in EU countryside somewhere. Nice contrast of colors makes it look real and it just feels cozy.

There is a little island on the northeast part of the map with a sandbar leading out to it just north of the old ruins where there is also a convenient waystone. I think the dev put that there intentionally for players to use as a place to make a base. Ground is wide and flat and you don't have to swim to get there. Maybe that would be a good spot for the next build?

But for now, how bout a nanny house to go with that mansion?

Nanny house? Fuck!
I don't even have any furniture in the current house. It has 3 pieces of furniture and two of the pieces are sitting on the roof, between the 2 roof peaks. I would likely have to gut the interior, rearrange the stairs to the second floor, and probably remove some of the support/structure inside, just to place some furniture, before I considered placing an out building next to it. Besides, I soaked up most of the build-able space with that house I posted.

I don't really want to build a house anywhere else. That area by the fisherman hut has pretty much every single resource in the game, in close proximity, with the exception of Iron and Dark Iron.

I may scout around the island to see what kind of open areas I can find. I actually still want to make a proper fort/keep/redoubt, with towers, stone walls, gates, and living quarters, but it would be pretty massive for what I imagine.

Thats what I did and eventually found spots that looked good and then I built there. I made a decision not to build where I had already built before. Usually near the shore were the best spots, but there are some good flat spots around the map. That island tho... it really is about the best spot on the map for building. Its why I think the dev made it specifically for people to use. I could be wrong and it was just the way it happened.

I've played NMS a long time ago so I don't remember how it(building system) was. But when it comes to building there is one thing that bothers me, pieces auto-snaping to other pieces. Does this game have such a feature? I think that's a huge quality of life feature.
