Old saves are often rendered completely unusable in updates that substantially rework existing content (like this one), and the only good solution is to replay from the beginning with cheats on so you can skip the grind you've already done. When you change existing content, the data structures in save files no longer match up. RenPy prevents you from loading it rather than letting you try to load it and run into crashes or an otherwise inconsistent game state.
As has been mentioned multiple times (including a post three above yours on the same page), the release everyone is sharing right now was leaked by an estranged developer. It was incomplete new content that was spliced into what appeared to be a v0.18 release. I personally looked through the files comparing them to past releases I still have on hand and it's very different than usual.
The official release doesn't have these problems, but nobody has leaked that one to my knowledge. I opted to just not play the bad version of 0.19 and wait for a proper release to drop again.

If someone thinks that I had access to the development of a new version, that these people are mistaken. The game asks you whether you want to have cheats on when you start a new game, and doing so will start you at the max level and with ample money.

How exactly do you earn Earth money in this game?
I took care of Elyon's boyfriend, and she's sad, so I assume I need to buy her stuff or progress my other available quests (buy a cat from the goblin and buy the figurine for the redhair), but I don't know how. I assumed you'd be getting money passively as your store's earnings, but I'm not getting that.
Nothing happening in the other world either, I grinded to lvl 8 and was hoping there's some sort of gold to cash exchange, but there isn't from what I see.

You work at the store, press the cash register and you get a minigame. Or just cheat like the rest of us!
