Its is your game, just make your story, have fun. If it has boobs people will play it don´t worry. Also your art looks real good. You have a great vision, so jeah i support you. The last time I coded was three years ago but it must be something in this idea :

mcname = "Harry"
$ mcname = renpy. input("What's your name? (default name Harry. Please note that changing the name may...)")

And to display the name in a message, you must write the name of the variable in square brackets (if i did my research right):
"Your name is [mcname]!"

The story that I have in mind requires for the main character to be Harry Potter.
The concept right now is that Harry and Hermione kissed when Ron left them in a tent in Deathly Hallows. Hermione felt guilty and told Ron about it, he was very jealous, flipped out and refused to go back to Hogwarts to finish his education like they were planning.

That's the setup of the story, now the game begins.
Hermione feells guilty, she avoids Harry, and Harry himself struggles with the consequences of the wizarding war, and PTSD. He was basically raised as a pig for slaughter by Dumbledore. So now it's up to a player to find a way to get Hermione back.

The route that I'm planning is psychological domination, Harry's gonna punish Hermione for basically being a "bad girl". She feels like she actually needs to be punished for a bunch of reasons. She wiped her parents memory, so now she has no home and she kissed Harry betraying Ron, so the punishment will be a relief for her.

The end of the first episode will be Harry giving Hermione a good spanking.

I think it's an interesting concept, it gives a deeper connection with the characters and makes sex scenes more impactful, and it feels like a realistic scenario that could've happen in the original story.
I find it interesting that we don't really know anything about Hermione's family and childhood, and the fact that she decided to wipe her parents memory raises a lot of questions. Would be fun to explore it in an interactive format and be back to Hogwarts once more.

But perhaps you overthink things to much ? I mean the concept earlier sounded also awesome but you realised its to much for you alone to handle. Since its your "first" real game, try to make it rather simple but safe.

I mean your artwork will bring enough attention alone. All you need is for the people to come back. Sure, a good story with plot sounds awesome but its not that easy to do. Im pretty sure most of the people just want to see Main Character being naughty with Hermy. Be it corruption like stealing her away from Ron, or just your typical romance but with steamy sex scenes.

I think you're right, but there's a challenge - I need to make it interesting for myself, otherwise I just get bored and then everything goes to shit. Making pictures with pretty girls isn't a challenge for me at this point, and creating so much variations feels kinda tedious, although I'm convinced that it will make this project stand out in a big way.
Having a cool story on the other hand, makes me exited and motivates me to actually finish it. So I'm trying to find a sweet spot.

I've lost just a couple of weeks developing the previous idea, but this things happen in production all the time.
Now however I feel like I'm going in the right direction. From the asset standpoint I need to finish the character (13 poses are already done, 4 more to go), make about 4 or 5 backgrounds (Gryffindor Common room, Library, a corridor or two and maybe a Great hall), and a spanking scene.

Then there's dialogue and coding and I already know what types of scenes I need to have to get the story going.
It feels quite manageable but I've been wrong before lol

There's a part of me that wants to get it all done and to get paid, but then again I'm annoyed with the amount of half-assed games that's out there, and I want to make something different. I can always scale it down one more time if I feel like it's not working.

Also it's not just a question of scale, I've developed a system of corruption based on 6 traits during last couple of weeks but then I realised it doesn't make sense in a context of this game. Hermione already likes Harry, there's no need for "breaking her down", she's already quite willing.

The same thing happened to the story, it felt like it doesn't fit in.

I was developing the idea of goblins antagonising wizards after the fall of Voldemort. I've written the villain, the plot outline but then again it felt too big for this format and themes became too serious.

Did you know that Flitwick is part goblin? We already know that Hagrid is half giant. It means that some of the magical creatures can breed with wizards which would be impossible if they weren't basically humans disfigured by magic. And then I though that it's a kinda fucked up world, because goblins and giants aren't allowed to have wands and attend Hogwarts, although they must be the same biological species as wizards in order to be able to procreate with them. And goblins control the banking system so they have an enormous leverage.

To me it's a very interesting idea, but you can probably see why I had to drop it.

I guess that's the learning curve, hopefully I'll get better at project management eventually.

If however I am writing a story about a made up family, in a fictional household, with no prior standing in literature, then yeah. The player can call them whatever they want to.

Except that unlike your example "Harry" doesn't really have any meaning in his universe, it's just a first name like any other.

Ok, his great grandfather was called Henry and Harry by his friends but it's light for "a great meaning which prohibits to change his name".
But there may also be a meaning that I don't know.

Oh the corruption part definitely fits. She may already LIKE Harry, but that doesn't make the innocent Hermione, ready to let herself be taken and used for someone elses pleasure like a sex doll. And make no mistake, smart and capable as Hermione is, throughout the Potter-verse she is innocent. Or at least has been, up until porn game devs got hold of her.

It's just about leaving the choice, you want to keep the name Harry okay cool, someone else wants to name the protagonist with his name to make it the story of "Lucas Potter" , awesome he can too.
And I never said anything about changing the names of other characters.

Just hope we find a way to get luna lovegood in this, may be just me but i realy need to get to fuck her, like for real, i just love crazy girls, luna with big boobs like real big and all, at least one pov scene with her would be nice, i do not know maybe she needs sperm for some magic potion or something, so she would you know milk it out of the source. Would not mind to have her look a bit scary and all, she could even be a yandere type in this, maybe it is because i am a bit weird myself but i love insane girls... so jeah maybe have her in it. Would be nice. If it fits. Just do your thing. I am very interested to see how this evolves.

It's gonna be an upgraded version of the demo from the first post, so yeah, visual novel style with choices. I want to capitalise on things that worked, so a lot of animations for a character and backgrounds, detailed dialogue.

I hesitate to give you a date, but I'm trying to speed things up right now.
Ask me at the end of August, I should have a full script by then and transport new version of the character to RenPy. If it works as planed, the release version should be soon after.
