VN Ren'Py Harem Hotel [v0.17.2] [Runey]

Absolutely love this game. Its one of my favorites.

I was surprised by a couple of the story events this time around. Some people have mentioned about them in earlier posts. I tend to like this kind of character development, although I can see where the other posters were coming from.
There were quite a few 'deep' moments/revelations about several different characters -all in one update-

It was a little jarring, all at once. Usually, you see that kind of stuff being spaced out and/or offset with lighter moments with other characters. Still excellent story telling, tho.

And I know this is probably not going to happen, cause it would involve a stupid amount of work....probably.
But I really wish that the 'Hot Springs' would have some kind of purpose for things other that scripted story events.
I'm always ducking in there. Even tho, I know nothings going to happen.
I wish it would work more like the showers.
- Have scheduled (or random) times for a girl (or randomize the girl) to be there. In the evenings, they are all available, except Kali. Could be a nice affection boost, or maybe a quick sexy moment.
- Or maybe have the Hot Springs be one of the places you can take the girls when you meet them in the lobby.
- I mean. Right now, we have them kind of 'hanging out' and touching themselves in the Utility Room (which is basically and empty room, except for a bench = not sexy), when there's a perfectly good reason to get half naked and touch yourself, right next door...which is, well, hot...

-If the room behind Ellen is a closet, how the hell does she get behind that counter in the lobby, which is solid all the way around?
-Why doesn't Ellen (so hot) have a (want to touch the heinie) room?

I know her feelings for the MC are sort of familial, due to her relationship with his Grandfather.
-And I don't care.
-I'm with Maria.
-Me likey.
-I would at least like have some conversation with her, as opposed to having such a hottie stand in for the game's help-menu.
(Which -duh- belongs on the computer in your room. Disguise the Help-Menu questions as recent 'Booble' searches, or something.)

-How about some anecdotes about Pap-pap or some work-place flirting?
-If she worked for Grandpa, she should be an expert at blue-balling the MC, before turning him loose on the guests (to further Grandpa's dying wish, of course).

Ellen's Room is behind her, it's not a closet.

Actually, I'm not really sure what it is right now. Currently I have no plans for what it could be. That's why Android calls it a closet (Which I've changed to room). But I will be planning some stuff out soon.

I do want to allow you to take the girls to the hot springs as an affection raising date from the lobby hangout events.

Ellen loved your grandfather as much as some of the girls love you now. Your grandfather was Ellen's MC. She's never going to love MC. Your grandfather is her soulmate, and she's in pain from his death. I do want to add story to her, and I do think you'll be able to have fun with her.

Well, this is an interesting bit of new direction. Personally I like the solidly lighthearted tone of previous updates, but I expect I'll enjoy this too, and I do have faith that you'll write it well. It makes sense to me that Maria and Ashley should have some emotional issues frankly, and we know to a small degree about how Emma and Felicity have had it rough too. Was a bit bummed about how maria said her and mc weren't really close. I like her character a lot. That said, I do think she has a point that their interactions have been heavily based around sex from the start and it makes sense that she needs some space from that. Again, I trust the good writing will continue.

I'll just dearly hope it doesn't descend into well-written all out tragedy at some point. I like all these characters.

Random little aside: I do hope Sylvia gets free. I did not like her at all at first, but realizing the risks she took to do what she thinks is the right thing, even if she does it in just about the most condescending way possible, has raised my opinion of her a fair bit. I'm also very curious about the elf who seemed to want to make sure neither MC or sylvia gave away particular information...

Also I do hope Autumn and her family get a bit more development of, and eventually some appreciaton for, their abolitionist beliefs. Sure, they're not like underground railroad heroes or something, but I do get the sense that autumn is sincere and wellmeaning and while she's too pushy and conversationally inept sometimes, I think that, even with all her faults, it would be far, far better world if more people in it thought like her.

Unfortunately she seems quite unlikely to persuade anyone, heh, but hey, at least there's always social reform via sex competitions! (I'm so proud of Lin...)

@Runey I see a lot of people asking for (sexual) content with Ellen, and I believe it comes from either her being so incredibly hot and within reach or her being a MILF, or actually both of them. Bottom line is: the Harem is missing a MILF character, and I know you mentioned something about not having a solid idea for one or something along those lines earlier in the thread, but if you're so adamant about Ellen story being done with the MC's grandfather, have the next person to join the Hotel a MILF. Just my opinion.

Should been a warning somewhere with that Lin event. I was not prepared to be thrown in a never ending scene. I downloaded the new version and turned it on just to make sure it worked and everything. Went downstairs got thrown into the new girl scene, then right after thrown into the Lin event. Its like woah. Slow down. Not ready yet.... :/

So, Kali's friendship is 6? To increase her friendship to 7, there should be a "Talk" option on her door. But perhaps since her friendship is fairly low, and Android's is fairly high, you may have encountered an odd bug. The fix to this would be increasing Kali's friendship until you can continue with Android, or decreasing Android's friendship to continue with Kali. Both of these options would require you to open the console. You can enable the console with Unren. Type one of the following (whichever fix you choose to do from the above): kali_friendship += 1 | bot_friendship -=1

Thank you! I think you experienced the events exactly how I hoped they would be experienced.

v0.5 had a lot of sadness going around to build up to the better parts. It's hard to tell where the story is headed when you only get a little slice of the pie each time, so I can understand your worried 100%. Through these sad events, I hope the player will bond with these characters more, and learn more about them.

Sylvia is good hearted, but she comes from a pretentious peoples. On one hand, she sees all other Elves as deserters, on the other hand, they're Sylvia's people that she can't abandon.

I set up Autumn to be a little annoying and somewhat disliked so her story and flourish later on. Such as with the Twins, I think this makes for good character building. I would definitely say Autumn is sincere and well meaning as well, but she was raised to believe one way was right, and all others needed fixing. Her father in particular is said to be a heroic man standing up for all Elves, and it was him who convinced everyone to give the Elves the Rights they have now.

MILFs are definitely planned, although it is hard to make a MILF who is submissive, and needs to be taught things, as all the other girls. I think one of the two main lovely features MILFs have is experience. Experience doesn't quite fit in with Harem Hotel's story of training and overcoming a character's shortcomings.

Ellen will definitely get some story, but she's a side character. Content must be sacrificed for other content. My goal in v0.6 is 1 story event minimum for each main character (maybe 2 or 3 for Autumn) and to focus on all side characters. Such as some Lucy story, getting Jin into the hotel, some Ellen story, perhaps something with Juliet and Kate. My other goal for v0.6 would be the introduction of the Bar. You would hire a waitress, and a bartender. You would also upgrade your bar with better staff training, better food, better beer, etc etc. I also want Maria's story to allow her to work as the bartender. Maria is without purpose at the moment, and she needs money. I think it's a good fit for her.

Thrown into a Lin event? You need to talk to Ellen to start that event, and you can roll back with your mousewheel to exit out of any mistakes. It shouldn't have thrown you randomly into an event.

No ending or goal in mind? I mentioned I haven't thought about what exactly is behind Ellen, not each character's story.

I don't have anything written down for an ending, but I do have ideas for some of the characters. Some others, I still don't know enough about. I don't plan my events ahead usually, I typically go with the flow. I see what's happened, who they are, what they would do, and what new can be learned, then I go forward from there.

A week before I start working on each update, I write down the whole update's story lines for each character.

Whether you see this is bad for me lacking to plan ahead, or good for me being able to know these characters so well that I'm able to make new things on the spot is up to you.

I know two things for sure. I know where I want each character to begin, and I know where I want each character to end. How exactly would be written down a week before starting work on the update, usually I change that up when I'm actually making the event.

Of course, Harem Hotel isn't done, and changes will be made to previous story events if they're seen fit, and I'll even be adding in new story events in between old ones if I see fit as well. In other words, Harem Hotel isn't done, I'm not just adding more on top of what I already have, I'm adding and changing things to make the best story I can possibly make

I would love to do more with stats and traits. Although that stuff hasn't been a priority yet. Perhaps in v0.7? Who knows. But I'm all ears for suggestions!

There may be more slaves by number, but that is only due to the vastly increased population over the last few hundred years. And modern slavers do not operate openly in any civilised country. The existence of modern slavery does not support the kind of slavery seen in the game.

On the contrary, it's exactly analogous to slavery in the 17th and 18th centuries. Back then, it was a common belief that only whites were human, thus it was acceptable to enslave people who weren't. What is the difference between that and elves in HH, except that modern people should know better?

I'm sorry, but I don't think you've brought up anything that makes this form of slavery less believable. This system can't last forever, the slavery of Elves is a new concept people are taking advantage of.

Bottom line, I don't want anything to do with the sub-culture of slavers. I don't disagree with your sentiment of not wanting to participate in the slavery any more than you have to. In fact, Runey, we could "underground railroad" these slaves we take into the hotel. Free them in secret, essentially, allowing them to choose to serve if they want. I already kinda want Sylvia to be an actual character, not just a side thing.

However, given the fact that slavery in this universe is treated with the slaves themselves having "human rights" I have to assume that the major difference between this universe and ours is the lack of a civil war. War has a tendency to change things very quickly. Politics, on the other hand, move slowly. So, as activists work to abolish slavery through the civil system, without a revolutionary act, be it a civil disobedience campaign, or a war, the slaves' material conditions are being improved, but slowly with the dragging feet of the democratic process.
