Man, the dev apologists are running rampant here.

I look at the shit other devs go through, with patreon and then with people here beating down on them continuously, because they need to re-do almost their complete game and then I see people defending DarkSilver and I really don't mean to bash the guy, but he doesn't even try to finish his project, letting all his patreons down.
What's really to defend about that? When others like Mr. Dots continue to work on their game, when guys like Irredeemable and Luxee had to completely change everything and remove whole characters and still struggle on.

He provided new content each month, but he got a lot of money for it and it wasn't exactly a lot. The game could have been easily finished already half a year ago, if he wanted to, now that he won't be able to get money as easily he just abandons the game and re-starts another one.
You can sugarcoat it all you want, but it's a slap in the face of his supporters.

Because each developer and business situation is different.

I applaud MrDots for what he wants to do. Maybe he had money saved up for a rainy day and can afford to have month without income.
Maybe DS end staff had a nice December celebration for a good year and he paid everyone bonusses for work well done and now has a credit crunch due to Patreon rule change. We don't know, but what works for one would not always work for another.

Irredeemable took months and LOTS of criticism and lost a lot of support going his route. He basically had to rewrite large portions of the game for and the whole thing took months. I'm not sure if he does it full time, but I suspect that he is part time at this stage with a day job.

DS made his decisions for what he feels is the best method to take his company forward.

I can understand Patrons dropping him completely. I can also understand the anger by some. But I think under the circumstances, that was the most sensible way to move forward for him.

Cheat mods do but for the content adding mods you need to go to the mod thread and see.

Mr Dots still has 3,647 patreons and no game on patreon just receves money there , DS has 2,198 and in losing every day more patreons but Mr dots in still developing DMD from what i understand and is on his personal website that is the diference

His Patreon page is currently completely scrubbed from DMD. And is basically in the same situation as DS at the moment.
I'm not sure how it is going to work out for him in terms of continueing DMD, but from Patreon's view, he is developing a new Adult game.

btw... I love DmD and hold my thumbs that it will work out for him.

Yes each update is the full game only but you can use your save games for V.13 if you want to.

Personally I think it was the right choice to have the game on hold rather than remake it. Only thing that I don't share is that in his next game he changed to a female MC, I think it would have been better to continue being a boy...

The game itself at this point is quite good, perhaps it would have been better to explore more the character of the aunt and Eric is an undeveloped character and the game is a bit grindy/luck based, but it can be enjoyed and I will still hope that someday he takes this project back.

Cash-flow is everything. You do what you need to do tho get through with minimum pain.

No other considerations are above cash flow. Fact.

The point many people complain about Heinz is that DS earned a lot of money with this game, he made small updates to continue collecting his monthly payments and now that he can't continue the game without hindrances he drops it.

A few thoughts about that money thing:

• Making money is not a bad thing
• DS doesn't make people pay him, they do it without any force and only as long as they want

And lets put some realism into a world of high expectations:

• Patreon makes DS stopping Big Brother NOW
• If he wants to continue it, he will need TIME to figure out how to do that without Patreon on his trail
• He assembled a team and has to pay them NOW
• So he has to make money NOW before they are scattered
• So he needs some way of Patreon-compatibility to continue his work at all NOW
• If he finds a way to provide BB in the future, he can do it THEN
• But to go on he needs an at least temporary solution NOW

It's all very easy if one is willing to start thinking instead of bashing.

I'm sure there will be a solution for this "instead of Patreon" problem for all ass-kicked developers, but it will take time. So we should act like adults and give DS and the others the opportunity to sort it out while having their teams operational.
And if someone still wants to go the "Mommy, the bad uncle took my toy away" path, anyone could still stop pledging. No (more) harm done.
In the meantime, literally everyone could do stories in the BB-verse, so do them if you can't wait!

Why not? Go the Farscape or Firefly path! Let's have "Big Brother - The Movie" or "Big Brother - The Virginkeeper wars". Sorry, got carried away.

You need to realise that that 350k you're naming is divided over 4 people. Then the living costs and other costs for a year get deducted. Then you have what's left of what DS has made in a year. It isn't 350k pure profit for DS.
