You make it EXTREMELY EASY to get a game over. If you play blind, when you fuck up, you have to start over. It's not fun.
yeh this game should have something like event helper like glassix that will be more easy. i dropped this because im so lazy to read walkthrough and play game at the same time although this is a great game

I keep getting comments on the lines

- I cannot play the game without a walkthough, I get stuck/soft locked or need to restart

On the first item I have not had much detail but I think it is that we differ from the more common layout of a Twine or RenPy game where
- there is a single sidebar on the left if any, or a top menu bar
- navigation is usually by clicking on areas on screen/on a map

I have tried to address the second case recently, there is a navigate via phone map and some extra information like arrows. Some is also just giving more information on what to do, but at times it is unclear what more to say. I do not want a in game guide pointing you to the next thing to do always. Some more details in the Notes in your phone seems appropriate here.

For the first one thought I have had is to optionally alter the screen layout to remove the right side bar. There is a bag icon on the left to open the existing full inventory on the right, or the popup version you can get.
Spell casting will be by clicking on the magic wand icon on the left bar and it will pop out a list of spell icons, ALL spells will be included. An example is attached. This could be a list of spell names and links
The phone will open by clicking the icon on the left bar

In this the focus then is on the left sidebar with the right popup for phone/inventory when requested. They can stay open, and close when asked

Some initial tutorial to show the use here for new players, a basic arrow saying 'click here to cast a spell' or whatever

Does this seem clearer/simpler to use to people? Do you have any alternative suggestions?

I think i must have been quite lucky, as i made my way through the game with no issues, but if people are struggling, a hints system is ideal. something a little clearer than the walkthrough. Obviously if you give too much away it would spoil some of the fun of the game so trying to find a balance is going to be tricky..

Nobody likes a huge walls of text. That's why hints or warnings of bad endings are ideal in games like this.

There is the Notes App that Provides Updates as well as Hints, and also functions as a Kind of Quest-Log. But It does feel like a rather old feature that has not been maintained and updated through the Years.... regardin your Question cmacleod42, revamping or revitalizing that Feature might be a Way to solve some of the Obscurity Issue, but I can imagine that this would be quite a large amount of Work...
I should aso point out though that I am a little bit of a bad example Case. After the Game presentet itself completely cryptic and incromprehensible to me in the Beginning, I basically played along the Walkthrough and made extensive Use of the Cheat function. But thats to the Point, I guess. While I still like this game a Lot, Its not the best look when I like it despite basically deliberatley having avoided playing it...

Also, tiny Idea just coming to me right now: Sometiomes Locations become available just by triggering Flags, and you cant possibly know there is a new place to go to, let alone from where, if not checking the Map or the Walkthrough. Having a Pop up Notification for when a new Location becomes available for the first Time might halp with Directions a little bit, especially in the earliest Parts of the Game.

I just downloaded this game so far its one of the better games that I have played. that said what is up with the mod thing when you pick the name , gender, mod standard game or severn valley mod or ava addams as Monique mod. i have looked for info to explain this but can't seem to find any. oh and by the way I just got the other mod thing some fix and image thing that was on the op on here . hopefully that will help me but I don't know if it will.

The stand alone bologna mod is exactly that, it is a copy of an older version of the game, modified according to the tastes of the modder. Lots of bondage and blowjobs for a male character. You DO NOT apply or use this with the current game, it is an alternate game

The others are for the current version of the game and minorly change the experience
- Severn Valley alters the settings to a different town from a series of Cthulhu mythos works. Alters the flavour of things a bit and various items and locations. But a superficial change mostly
- Ava mod use images of the porn star "Ava Addams" for the character Monique in the game

I think the idea of a location popup would be helpful for new players. While I do say in the game text in most cases, this would help for those who skim over the text and not notice.
