Maybe check your machine for viruses? I have a CPU and memory in the same ballpark (RAM is exactly the same, actually), and when unzipping the Alexandra archive file, my machine uses maybe 6MB of memory and maybe 2% of the processing power. There's no way your machine should be straining so hard to do something so simple. If it's taking your computer that long, something is seriously wrong, bogging your PC down.

except unpacking Maids and maidens for ex, it did so at around 4.8 Mb/s. It is only the occassional title it bogs down to no end with; and it makes no sense to me at all. I run an always on AV and an active web monitor for virus/malware.

If you go into Task Manager and then the Details tab, do you see any processes (when you are not unzipping something) that is consuming a large amount of resources? You can click the Memory heading once you're viewing the Details list to sort by highest memory usage to lowest. (You can do the same for CPU usage by clicking on that column heading.) If you have a browser or other application with a lot of tabs open, for instance, Details might list them individually. Each one might not be a lot, but collectively (like all Chrome browser tabs together) could be taking up serious resources that otherwise could be used temporarily for something like unzipping files.

Anyway, I really can't say why you had so much slowness on this specifically, but I can say that I never see the kind of issue you saw unless I have something else running that itself is a resource hog.

Steam client appears to be the real res hog. Probably isnt helping that GOG Galaxy, and Epic launchers are also showing res usage but nothing out of the ordinary...as in, no unidentified/unrecognized processes. Every now and then, unpacking a zip file, it will drop all the way down to 168 B/s or some other absurdly slow speed; and it leaves me wanting to pull out the 3 remaining hairs I still have. NEVER had that occur with my old laptop and its I-7 processor. When I built this desktop Dec 2022, I went AM4 figuring I'm 67 years old. This may well be my last PC so I went 5800X3D as it benched comparable to everything else out there, but lacking an upgrade path, AM4 was highly affordable. And in 4thQ 2022, DDR5 RAM was insanely high priced, as were the brand new MBs for AM5 or the newest Intel line. I've been half wondering if it isnt an AMD processor glitch.

Nah, the 5800x3d is cool, I run a 5900x on a x570 AM4+ chipset. Due to the bigger L3 cache your processor is optimized a bit better for gaming, but I prefer to have some more cores. In any case it's more than enough to run a couple of launchers and some python script games.

Make sure to turn on processor virtualization in in your BIOS (to get more possible parallel threads) and your RAM is set to the correct speed (often called XMP = Xtreme Memory Profile) and not compatibility mode.

Both 7z and RAR can read each ofhers both formats. Only if you also compress data in both formats you need both.
I stick with RAR.

Maybe bad CPU cooler placement and overheating?

yeah endings if you can even call them that were just cut and game done, stare in that pic and be done with it. i have expected bit more than that, but as i said is what is.
Yeah. It felt very rushed. At the time I thought maybe there was a "Chapter Two" in the works so I was a bit more optimistic about it all but now....yeah. Just bummed about how it fizzled out at the end when it had such a strong showing up to that point.

I always wondered if he changed the story halfway through because some of us had successfully guessed where it was going. You see alot of writers fall into that trap. "Oh no! They figured out my plot twist. I've lost the surprise factor! i have to change it all now!" which is so bizarre to me.

Aside from punishing your fans for being clever, you run the risk of writing yourself into a corner and watching it all unwravel from there.

I'm just speculating of course. But it was still good run up tp the end and considering how many games never get any ending at all, i'll take a rushed quasi-ending over no ending any day of the week.

Well...I shouldn't say that. There's at least two games on F95 which had such spectacularly awful endings I would have been happier to have them get abandoned. lol. But this is a far, FAR cry from those.

nope. CPU RARELY exceeds 75c, and then only underload. AK620 dual fan tower cooler, behind 3x120mm Bequiet intake fans and 2x120mm exhaust BeQuiet fans above it and a 140mm exhaust fan behind it. MORE than adequate airflow. That was a deliberate aspect of the build planning.

Unless you're speakin Swahili, I understood exactly what you said. You don't need both. I compress to 7z, rar, zip and even tar at times. I do it all with 7zip.
You've got me curious as to where you got the plug-in to CREATE rar files using 7zip then.
Even reads that it can only unpack rar files
