I have seen on other games that you can end up on top of the walls if you move off of the ladders at the tops of the walls. If I were to hazard a guess on how they got outside the map I would start there. I sure never managed it when I played the game.

It's understandable that he doesn't know because there's no progress tracker anywhere to know how are updates going, unlike other games.
