It's not a porn game, it's an adult VN.
You are arguing an opinion based on semantics. There is no way to truly prove either point, for or against. I say it's an adult AVN with porn in it. There is more quality story than H-scenes and the sex, IMHO, flows naturally out of the story. However, the sex is top grade porn! Even soft core porn is still porn. A rose by any other name smells as sweet but is still a fucking rose. It's an adult AVN with porn in it. You'll be hard pressed to convince me otherwise, sweetpea.

There are no clear guidelines for AVN's so I default to the rating systems for other media like games and film. Just showing an open vagina and an erect penis is sufficient to shut down a AAA game studios release and take a film straight from the standard R or even NC17 ratings right over to XXX porn. There is porn in this AVN.

Love you Ava, dear friend. Just unable to agree this time, mate.

Would you call the Witcher games, porn games?

No, but they all have sex in them.

To call this a porn game is a gross oversimplification and an injustice to the story the dev is creating. It's an adult VN that contains sex scenes however there is far more story than there is porn.

Sorry in advance for butting in, found this subject interesting. I think most people would see it as 'porn' because of the visually explicit nature of the renders: While in The Witcher is obvious they're having sex (same with scenes like in Dragon Age games, Mass Effect, etc), they don't explicitly show you the man's genitals, or they don't graphically show you the guys burying their dick inside the girls.

Personally, for me this is a little more complex. I see games like Artemis (You know, games that bother with an actual coherent kinda realistic story, good dialogue and real characters with good character development) as Visual Novels that happen to have explicit sex in them, but I wouldn't catalogue them as 'porn' cause their core focus isn't purely sex. There are maaaaaaany porn games in this site, but I wouldn't call Artemis a porn game (Same with Leap of Faith, for example, while I would put WVM in the category of porn game).

Just a little squabble over wording here. I don't think MOST people would consider it porn. I think MOST people on THIS site would consider it porn. But it is important to look at your audience. How many people on this site have a well-developed sense of self, a mature brain, and the ability to think critically about mature topics? Just a thought.

Edit: A small addition. SOME people consider all sex pornographic. Think about that. And who they might be.

Using my same film comparison, if the Witcher games were films, they would EASILY obtain a an "R" rating, possibly a PG13, not a porn XXX. Such is NOT the case with Artemis and the vast majority of other games I play here from F95zone. The H-scenes and animations fully show erect penis, open vagina and penetration. Witcher does NOT. The balance of story to porn has zero bearing on the fact that the level of the sex and what is shown is fucking PORN! It's top quality, rather classy porn and I love it but it is porn none the less. Take off the rose colored glasses, dear friend. This game contains PORN! Do I need to demonstrate further? I will need to go on a screenshot raid through the game but I will if it helps you understand. The opening sex scene with that super cunt, Cassie... PORN! The scenes leading up to the BJ contest at the INK house, PORN! The entirety of the BJ contest, PORN! MC fingering Artemis, PORN! The list goes on and on and on! There is genuine PORN in this title! There are no two ways about it. Every H-scene and animation in this game would flat out fail to obtain an MPAA approval for both R and NC17 ratings. That equals PORN!

Have a great day, dear friend. I still cannot agree with you on this topic, still love you. Adventure ever on, Phat;)(y)

It is obvious that there will never be an agreement. This argument happens on every thread. In the strictest sense of the word, you would be correct. Have you spent much time looking at artistic nudes? Those have many of the features that would be considered porn in some places (like the U.S.). But they are considered art instead. Why? What makes them different?

Now, I am not saying that these artistic nudes show penetration. At least, none that I have seen. Pornography is a strange phenomenon. What a community considers pornographic is largely up to the members of that community. And in that sense, Artmemis is not pornography. Does it contain all of the scenes you described? Yes. But this community has a very different membership than the average local town in the U.S. What we are really saying here is comparatively, this is not porn. But for the sake of argument, let's call it elevated porn. Yes, there are scenes that show the erect penis and penetration. But the focus is not on those scenes. They are secondary to the story. They occur in the process of illustrating adult and mature themes. Imagine if we lived in communities that accepted that people have sex and we could talk about it without calling it sex pornographic.

More importantly, why do people feel the need to have this argument? Is it important that it is called porn? What is gained from labeling it? Nobody is trying to sell it in the local comic shop. It is an adult game. Why can't we have adult situations in adult games without someone trying to make it pornographic? This argument usually pops up when people get upset that there are no sex scenes in an adult game. As if the game has to show penetration scenes to be considered acceptable. I don't see why it matters.

Too much time wasted with Artemis or talking about AI shenanigans. She's cute and interactions with her are fun but with a big roster of girls and the slow development cicles, this can be exhausting for some players.
Let's say you're into Reina or Katy, well, tough luck, you have to wait 2 years for some content with them

Well, compared to other LI´s, it´s relatively hard to reach the points where you interact with her. I didn´t interact with her in my first playthrough at all. It´s a taste thing but she is a beloved character in this community (me included). The way I interpret her is shy, softspoken but curious. I would consider her route more "wholesome" than anything, if that´s your thing. But, to be fair, there hasn´t been enough story yet to be sure, maybe there´s a twist in the works. If you ask me "is it worth it?" I would say: Yes, go for it.

It looks like Zelda is the most demanding LI in the game. If the audience likes her in this thread, then Zelda seems worth a try and she's not like Jill from BaDIK, who is the standard quiet and shy girl, a virgin, but also very poorly written.
And in the end, Atremis is one of those few games that are worth the time spent on multi-branching.

Changed my computer about 2 months ago, my AVN library, including Artemis, was on SSDs that I had to switch to my new PC.

Mistakenly thought saves were in AVN directories, so lost most of my saves.

I have to start over most of those games, to get where they're at in their updates, in some cases, looks kinda like a chore to me, but in others, not so much.

Like Artemis.

I have to say, starting Artemis over again is a charm, damn I missed that story, those characters, started again last night, am just in the middle of Ch.2 (discussion by the japanese pond with Dr.K, she's lovable), and shit, the feels... love the fact all the characters in that game are flawed, makes them more 'normal', more 'real', as far as AVNs go, of course.

Well-written AVNs are my thing, 'I play for the story', literally, lewds are simply bonuses, nothing more, but becomes way more when the writing/build-up is up to par.

Obviously didn't play the new update yet, but I see some people unhappy there's only 1 lewd scene in it... and I'm a bit baffled by this. Are you seriously playing a game like Artemis for sex scenes ?
